The Best of 2010.

Year end list, six years and counting. To get it out of the way before we start: I have terrible taste and I mainline pop culture. Don't let any of the length explanations below confuse you: I really only just know what I like, and sometimes I'm able to offer some reasons why I do. By no means is anything I say below the be all and end all ( Read more... )

I haven't seen/made a end-of-year list since I was about thirteen, the nostalgia is warm and makes me want to do one, despite the fact I can remember fuck all about last years' media already ♥
I'm in need of new music to listen to, so I think I'll trawl through your list (bar the ones I already know and love) and take a peek - ditto the films - I think I saw you mention Catfish aaaaaaaages ago and tried to keep an eye out, but I don't think it got released near me, so that'll be a bit of digging and something to watch on an inbetween day.
*huggles*
(Oh, and! I managed to do some digging and I've got you something, but I need to nab your address to send it to, if that is okaaaaaaaaaay? consider it like a late x-mas present or something idk)

<3 My head is filled with like, packing foam shapes, and it makes it hard to remember what I liked, what I didn't like, what I didn't like but secretly kinda did...maybe. xD

asdlfk EXCELLENT list. i am going on a mad downloading spree. i think that hellogoodbye album is delightful and my thirteen-year-old sister loves the MCR album with an undying passion, and i scoffed at the time because i apparently live under a rock, but it's been lauded as a comic book and totally innovative! anyway. yes. cheers! (also wtf, i love reading blogs. +follow)

that mcr record still impresses me each new day i listen to it. tracks i didn't think twice about two weeks ago, i now listen to and sing along with. the videos are epiiiic, and the comic book undercurrent really grants the record a trajectory. so good, wtf.

Ah the Neon Trees album is not an EP but an actual album. They open for 30 Seconds to Mars...or atleast I still think they do. They actually sound better live than on the album, which is amazing! <3 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5525748&l=ee7dad4880&id=778306321 horrible picture of me but oh well XD but they do lots of small concerts too, but mainly the small small concerts are in Utah where they came from. My friend Lauren was actually in their 1983 music video...but I've never seen her in the video, except maybe a crowd shot but oh well lol :P

i feel like any record with less than twelve tracks is hard pressed to call itself a real album, so i've been looking at the habits tracklisting and trying to figure out why there's only EIGHT, haha.

I disagree with several of these! But... I don't really feel the need to get all up in arms about it, because while I might be able to pick out bits from your list it's not like I've sat down to do one of my own. I don't think I can, really. Films and music year to year tends to slip away from me (so many times I go 'oh, that was this year?' or 'that was six years ago? I thought it was last summer'), plus my discoveries of things aren't necessarily the year they were released in. I should clearly start using my music/film moleskines properly so I can do one of these next year.

But yeah, what that is a is roundabout way of saying I like this list and I like the fact that you've taken the time to sit down and share it with us. Thank you.

i want to hear your thoughts! which do you disagree with?

most of the time i wait until other people put year end lists up so i can do a refresher course on what came out that particular year. i do tend to see a lot of films, listen to a lot of records, and it's much more difficult to remember which record came out when than for films. it's fun revisiting everything, though. i wish you'd do a list -_- with your expansive tastes, i bet it would be awesooooomeeee.

I don't really go to the cinema much anymore so my film viewing is restricted to what I can get in my home. Which means it tends to be a huge mix of recent things as well as old ones I've stumbled over in reviews or on the TV. The same with music, really. I worry I'd sit down to try and make a 2010 list and find I've got a really limited amount to talk about, because most of what I watched/listened to wasn't actually from 2010.

My disagreements are of course my own opinions. I'm not looking to start a 'stop liking what I don't like', or the reverse, battle with you. Firm believer in everyone liking what they like without judgement, when it comes to music and film.

Two Door Cinema Club's Tourist History was pretty much my keeps-my-heart-pumping album all through summer, before I overplayed it and was left bereft until Danger Days came out. Inverted was a disappointment the first few times I played it, but it grew on me, slowly, and while I agree Bleed American is Jimmy's best album, I think Chase This Light came pretty fucking close ( ... )

to be fair, i definitely didn't spend a lot of time with tourist history, maybe a week or two tops before i shifted it over to an external harddrive. i'll listen closer and try and see what i'm missing~

kick-ass i definitely thought was a polarizing film. i saw it with my kid brother, and he loved the hell out of it, which proved to be infectious for me. in terms of off-kilter superhero flicks, it was this and scott pilgrim going head to head for me, and i've never been a fan of michael cera. i really thought i'd love pilgrim, too, but... i dunno what happened -_- expectations too high, definitely. i haven't seen defendor, though i think i've heard it mentioned, but i'm definitely checking it out now~

year released aside, what was one of your favorite films you saw in 2010? 2010 was the year of netflix at work for me, and i think i watched more films that i ever have in any single year before.
