Ahh - a tiring end to the week. Thursday night I went to a talk at the state library which was great, not very informative but I got to sit next to Susan Wyndham and I met these two marketing girls who I was a bit put off by at first but they turned out to be really nice and we talked about travelling and such. I just finished a fantastic book called so many books so little time by Sara Nelson. It dealt with many themes that plague me when I am reading such as "Do I double book?", "Am I a member of the clean plate book club?", "What happens when someone I love hates my favourite book?" and other such things. Dylan Moran was fantastic. I was incredibly happy from the minute he started to the end two and a half hours later and once it was over I felt so empty, so spent. I wanted to hear it all over again. I take it back. Queen Cat, Carmel and St Jude get a life was not aimed too low, and it was not too young for me. It was actually pretty perfect and I enjoyed it a lot once I got past Carmel whingeing about being a fat country girl. So today was Anzac day. I did nothing special. I do feel patriotic I guess but I feel sometimes the government (not to mention the media) tries to romanticise war and make it seem like it's all justified to let barely adult young men go off and die for - not their country - but a political cause decided upon by the leaders to further their ( Read more... )

Just made a trip out to sans souci library. I haven't been in a local library since ... well apart from strasbourg, since about first year uni. It was really nice!! I borrowed four books and am very excited at my community spirit and going back again tomrrow. It seems a good way to devour books without books devouring my sinking bank balance. Easter was ok this year. I seem to have recieved tons of chocolate which I definitely don't need. We went to all-you-can-eat Sunday lunch at caringbah which was pretty mediocre. I really don't like all you can eat. The quality isn't any better than you can do at home I reckon but i guess it's value for money which appeals to my tight-arsed family. ( Read more... )

I bought the new nick earls book "The thompson gunner" last week on a whim and read it. It was good but not great. I still enjoy Nick Earls, and I liked the story (sort of, parts of it were interesting anyway) and I like his style it's so readable and rings so true.
