It is time that we got rid of this rule. Trust me, I was in the service, and the arguments to justify it are not valid. The true reason it still stands is homophobia, the "I don't want no fag hitting on me." Just stupid, right down to the fact that gays tend not to hit on homophobes in the first place. I did seven years Army. I could not agree with you more!

I was surprised to learn that it wasn't part of the UCMJ until 1992.

I never served, but I agree completely. If someone wants to serve our country, let them and with our thanks.

Kicking people out of the military is dumb. If someone is willing to serve we shouldn't kick them out for being gay. That's just dumb.

hell you don't even mention that some of the people we served w/ were openly gay but since they were "nukes" it was ok. the double standard was ridiculous

Another thing that bothers me is that the military kicks out homosexuals without proof that they are gay when they want to stay in and allows straight people to claim they are gay, solely to avoid fulfilling their term, without proof and discharges them. No wonder we are having such a difficult time finding sufficient numbers to serve.

Our military would be much stronger if sexual orientation wasn't an issue.

I think our military would be stonger if everyone served. They need the contrary voices instead of everybody agreeing all the time. IMHO

As long as there is facility for Alternate Service (CCC, Health Corps, etc.,) I'm all for compulsory gov't service tenure. Any time you say "Everybody HAS to do this," you're asking for trouble.
