One of the problems with working at a small company is that there's not a large pool of manpower to pick up the slack when the work is behind schedule, so everyone has to give 110%. We have power again, which I guess is nice. I was honestly enjoying myself more when we didn't, but the convenience is seductive. We stayed a few days in a hotel in Arkansas (which was over $5000 for all the people and dogs we had x_x). As we checked out someone told us that FEMA was paying for lodging for people in mandatory evacuation zones, which we were, but the list of zip codes at the front desk only listed Louisiana codes, so that sucks ( Read more... )

So, we ran away from Hurricane Rita. I think we left yesterday morning. I had wanted to leave the night before, but nobody listens to me. Traffic was incredibly bad...we averaged 8 miles an hour for the first ten hours. Since the day the hurricane hit, my investments in the energy and global natural resources sectors (and to a lesser extent, real estate, which was previously losing money) have shot up, giving me an unrealized profit of about $450 as of yesterday.
