my first day commuting by bike, what happens?

that's right, i get a flat.

didn't do much at the office today. filled out some tax forms, read some documentation, went to lunch, looked at the website CMS, and got drinks with coworkers, and went home. my boss is too busy for me most of this week, and on vacation next week. interesting start.

i didn't expect to be sad, leaving my old job - but around 2:00, it sunk in that i'd actually miss it. i spent the afternoon alternating between frantically trying to tie up every loose end and wondering why i bothered, since it wouldn't be my problem anymore ( Read more... )

i rode my bike to the grocery store tonight. i didn't have to put on 3 layers plus my jacket. I didn't have to wear arctic mountain climbing gloves. I rolled up my jeans and didn't worry about a potential patch of exposed skin between my wool socks and my long underwear - in fact, i did not wear either.

i love the spring.

last night was the infamous tour da chicago "stairmaster" stage - the final and most brutal stage. Not only was there a lot of fast biking involved, there was also a lot of stairs to climb or descend. probably 1500 all told. the course was a 10-mile loop, and there were 3 laps. the first was a slow lap to get everyone acquainted with the course. i went shopping at trader joe's for the first time last week. It's an interesting place, but i'm not sure it's worth the out of the way trip. Or I wouldn't be sure, if it wasn't for their boxed indian entrées. for two dollars, you get a foil pouch full of delicious indian food. after stage 2, i'm still holding a pretty solid position - 36th place! This is due to a number of factors, but my performance in the last race was not one of them. I rode like shit, and came in 3rd to last. However, the standings are based on points, and a lot of people didn't finish. I got a point for each of them.
