Of course people come to investigate the explosion. Finding Amon's body and their councilman mangled and half-drowned, they connect the dots and assume he must have been the one to kill Amon.
A hero. Republic City's savior, just like he wanted.
Tarrlok is brought back for intensive healing, showered with praises, treated like a martyr for "sacrificing his bending" and risking his life to stop Amon from escaping.
I just want to see how he deals with this.

Tarrlok had been using bloodbending when Amon forced him to the floor. He'd reveled in the power over his foes. He'd used it on the Avatar when she threatened his control of Republic City.
Noatak, still protecting his little brother from their old man’s legacy. Tarrlok hadn't had the heart to ask if he realized how close Amon had come to achieving Yakone's goals. He replied simply, Our father set us on this path.
