Try out Life! It's in the same vein of VM awesomeness and was not a mainstream hit as well. The 2 leads are well acted and very compelling characters. Although not heavy on pop culture like VM, their big mystery stories are really quite good.
I used to dig Skins, which you probably don't have to download, but not so much anymore.
For the escapist fluff factor, I keep Eli Stone on my roster of shows to DL. As long as you don't scuritize the legal aspect and just keep your eyes glued on Johnny Lee Miller and Victor Garber, it's good as gold. Chuck is definitely thirded.
Eli Stone is do-able, if you used to enjoy Ally McBeal, because it's similar in its quirkiness and outlandishness; considering it's a legal drama. I also used to watch Breaking Bad but it got a little too dark and drab for the time being.
I've heard many good, fun things about Greek but haven't given that a go. I preferred catching up on old shows like Cupid and Dead Like Me, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I'm a science geek, so I really like Bones. It's kinda like CSI - each episode has a new victim - but less about the victim and more about it's main characters. It's funny and cute.
I'm also a psych geek so I like Criminal Minds. It's a bit disturbing at times but it is good.
I started watching Army Wives on Living a few weeks back then ended up watching it all online over Easter. So good. Really touching, the kind of show that grows on you and by the end you really feel for the characters. Pretty sad, though :(
I love How I Met Your Mother. The first season is just okay - very sitcommy - but the second and third are fantastic. It depends a bit on you're in the mood for.
Beyond that, I think that all the shows I watch have been mentioned.
Second series of Torchwood has been quite good so far, but it won't make sense without the first, which is slightly less good. I would recommend for crazy Doctor Who-related hijinks, though, and extra Martha goodness.
I can't think of anything that's on right now, since most shows I like seem to end up cancelled for some reason, but the boyfriend has really enjoyed Pushing Daisies though I haven't seen it yet. As far as things that aren't on right now, I will recommend Rome to anybody because it is fantastic. And I do enjoy House, though more for its overall character development and snappy writing than for the plots, which are admittedly repetitive. It is well worth watching all the same.

Here's the torrent link for Season 1. (Needless to say, it's an abbreviated season, due to the writer's strike!)
