I enjoyed this little snippet of the boys. I know John loved his kids and I they know it too but Dean's memories of a kinder, gentler John are nice to hear. It's also nice he shared with Sam.

Having seen him scoop up wee!Dean in the pilot, and holding him so affectionately - I liked the idea of him being gentle and careful (and panic-stricken) if Dean took a tumble down the stairs. I'm sure the show will never give us that, but it definitely exists in my head!
