as a newbie to the fandom can I just say I adore your meta. I'm one of those that COE was my first intro to Torchwoood (and really Whoverse) Trying to wrap your head around it going backwards isn't much easier lol! I completely fell for the Jack/Ianto story despite how awkwardly it was told in COE. I've just started rewatching it after seeing season 1 and 2 and I can only imagine how truly awkward the portrayal was for all of you. Its made me question what I thought about them from my first viewing since I now see it as a step backwards from where they were. (not to mention some wildly out of character moments ( ... )

Thank you so much for this comment. I think you are right, and well I have to say I don't really understand it myself. I think the just being about Jack comment is OK for the character, but it is a bit dodgy, and does look apologetic almost.

Yes a lot of the fan reaction post CoE felt the same as you about Ianto being suddenly the "queer" and all the references to that. This is new to Torchwood as you say. Check out xtricks, he did a very moving meta on exactly this subject, how upsetting it was for him as a gay man. Worth a look. (Anyhow if you haven't read his Jack/Ianto stories, well lets say they are essential.
