no typo, you read that right. september 11th means something rather different for my family. on september 11th, 1944, my paternal grandfather's plane was shot down over Nazi Germany. thankfully, he parachuted out of the plane and survived. if he hadn't, i wouldn't be writing this, as i wouldn't exist. he was captured and held in a German war prison ( Read more... )

That is amazing.
I give thanks to all our veterans who risked and gave their lives for our freedom.

Post more pictures if you have any.

Cheers.

That is an amazing post. Not only being the history dork that I am, but also because my (late) Poppa and Grandpa were also WW2 Vets. It's crazy when you think how these people risked thier lives for others. Before my Poppa died, I just found out that he was working on one of the big transport ships for Normandy. Pretty fucking intense when you think about it.

That must have been a huge day for your grandpa too.

yeah, it's strange... there's alot of the time that i don't realize everything he's actually done in his life, because he's never been one to boast. but then there's days like that, and he starts reminiscing, and it hits me what an amazing and adventurous life he's led.

This post motivated me to spend more time with my grandparents. One of which is frequently in and out of the ICU and will not be around for much longer. I really, really enjoyed reading what you had to share.

Thanks.

-And it was good to finally meet you at Absinthe!
Here's to many more motown nights. Cheers!
