Frankly I'm kind of suprirsed the company reacted the way they did; I would have thought the audience of that show would approve of the anti-gay remarks. Maybe the company has other shows they think would be endangered.
At any rate, freedom of speech means the government won't imprison or fine Mr Duck Call for his remarks. It doesn't mean the rest of us can't use our brains to come to conclusions about him based on the remarks. It doesn't mean we can't use our consciences to act on those conclusions. And it doesn't mean we can't use *our* freedom of speech to talk to others about it.
They were probably worried that people would decide not to watch their channel at all over what was said. DD may be popular but one show does not a network make.
Yep. Remember how earlier this year a comedian in California poked fun at Texas governor Perry's business policies in the wake of that fertilizer explosion in West, Texas. Perry demanded the person be fire. Not so interested in free speech then where they.
Indeed, the Texas beef industry spent taxpayer $ suing Oprah Winfrey over her remarks. Apparently, to Big Government Conservatives, insulting gays is protected speech but insulting cows requires government regulations to stop.

never again.
Our cable TV system does not carry A&E that I am aware of, so I've never actually seen the show, even in online reruns.
