Superb Owl

There is, apparently, some sporting event or other today. I suspect it has something to do with Tom Riddle, as the organizers get very touchy when someone tries to actually use the name of the thing. Fortunately, a simple slide of one letter to the left produces Superb Owl, a much more glorious thing to celebrate ( Read more... )

You're hooked on Marvel Puzzle Quest too? *sigh* Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so frustrating. I work hard to get 200 points, go to sleep and wake up to find I've lost 300 points. And they wonder why there's such a high drop-out rate.

I don't play this, so how can you lose 300 points when you aren't even playing?

They have it set up as an open, unregulated tournament. This means people who spend every waking hour playing this game will always win the top prizes. Just check out their list of winners and you'll see the same six names. While you're spending five minutes playing a match three to twenty other players will be decimating your team so while you might win 15 points they'll kill you for 75 points ( ... )

Indeed. Biggest problem is that there are gamers out there with lots of time and enough disposable income to always pile on at the top. I've learned to not get into tournaments at all unless I think I have a decent shot at the top 200. The top 50 is not gonna happen.

I heard as I was driving home that the game turned into a blow-out. Meanwhile, I danced with about 50 different women tonight. Beats the heck out of sitting on the couch and munching nachos.

I've already seen the Budweiser commercial with the puppy and the Clydesdales. Why else do I need to watch? I would rather spend the time reading.

Got that. I'm gonna link to a page with all the commercials tomorrow.

Going to wait until the game starts, then go grocery shopping. It's kind of an annual thing with me - I like being all alone in the store.

Smart. I tried going at about 1:30 and it was pretty crowded. They opened up the express lane with the slowest check-out clerk. Behind me was a woman who had about twice the number of maximum items for the express check out with a big line behind of of people who know how to count. I pointed it out to her and she said, "What are they going to do, arrest me?" CWAA!

I can usually look up interweb acronyms, but CWAA isn't giving me anything useful. Translation, please?

It's one of Tom's tags along side of "Human Monsters". Stands for "Christ What an Asshole". People who have too many items for the express lands are one of my pet peeves. If I can tell at a glance you have more than 15 items, then you can tell too. I think she just wanted to avoid the long lines in the pre-game rush. Which is no excuse.

We'll be watching the game too, and have a crockpot of turkey chili that should be ready just in time for kickoff. Plus tortilla chips and salsa for additional munching.

To answer your question, I suspect the distaste some folks have for sports comes from high school where athletes tended to be at the top of the social order and folks like us tended to be at the bottom. Thus, the sports world holds bad memories for a lot of us.

Not for me though - I'm similar in that I have a sports-fan father that I'm close with. Also went to a private high school with no football team. So I don't have those negative associations (though I certainly sympathize with those who do.)

Not just in high school and not just the social order. If you play sports you get preferred treatment. Schools and the law have the habit of looking the other way for things that would get regular people thrown in jail.

I wouldn't dream of harshing your squee. I hope you have a blast, and I hope the game is everything you want it to be.
