01. IF THIS IS TRUTH OR DREAM.

[It's going to be another long day, he knows.  Today is the day that he's slated to spar with the lieutenant and he's spent the last few minutes tensing himself, preparing himself for the absolute work out that he's going to get fighting with the lieutenant. It will be hard, but he's a Legionnaire. He can do this. He cracks open his eyes, prepared ( Read more... )

[It is far too early to go to school. Somehow, Mia has pushed him out the door anyway so she can actually have some peace and quiet for once. The child mage trudges down the street with his backpack, looking fairly odd in his magician's robes. Though not as odd as the man brandishing the knife on his lawn.]

H-Hey! Don't wave that thing around!

[Palom is a hero, after all. He has no qualms about creating a ball of flame and putting on a brave face.]

You should put it down!

[Oh my god a ball of fire. He is a legionnaire he will not run away from a fancy flamethrower. He will keep telling himself this. So despite the fact that his normal response would be to be nice to kids (he does like kids after all), he stares impassively down at Palom and articulates, slowly in order to not betray his shock and disorientation.]

I wouldn't suggest you wave that around either. Where am I?

Hah! Like I'm gonna let you run around stabbing people. Are you totally loony or are you new here?

New here? Why would I want to be here?

[A tremendous man is watching Nasim do drills in the park. He would look fairly large just from perspective, but when standing near a tree... he looks wrong. Too big to be human. Conventionally human, anyway. He watches Nasim drill without comment.]

[Nasim senses someone, and continues on with his drills without comment, though those watching on would notice that his drills are just a little bit more furious than they were a moment ago. Show of peacocking + wariness, ho!]

[Garviel steps closer to Nasim, nodding.]

"Good discipline. You're a soldier then?"

[Holy crap. Is that dude 8 1/2 feet tall? Why yes, he is.]

[holy what the heck. Soldier that he is, he's still a bit taken aback by the 8 1/2" guy. He manages to hide his shock a few seconds after it appears.]

I'm a Legionnaire, yes.

LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY]

[what. Laughter? well he dialed the right number...
so this is a practical joke after all. so this isn't the Capitaine.
Okay that means he can revert to himself.]

Goavert, you little Dutch fucker, what's this? And how'd you manage to get Djibouti to look like some housewife movie?

notsaul February 24 2011, 20:26:14 UTC
[Yeah, not Dutch. As American as you can get, this voice.]

Dude, say it again!

[normally he'd be a little more suspicious, but considering he still thinks he's talking to his friend he thinks he's just playing a long and hilarious joke.]

How'd you get Djibouti to look like some housewife movie? Is this some of that magician shit you're trying to teach?

[Good thing Merem can reply in French. Feels good man.]

Oh, no. You are far from Djibouti. You're in the United States.

[He's a little bit panicky at the moment, but he thinks that he's still talking to someone at the station, so...
Still in French.]

With all respect, Capitaine, how did I get here? I had no equipment, there were no orders the day before, if this is a mission then there is no objective, and there was another mission that my section was assigned today.

It was a reassignment. That is to say, I am not your Captain but a member of the Vatican. You have to do what you can to uphold Catholic honor.

[Is the Vatican interfering in the Legionnaire's affairs, why and how?

First off -- cardinal, vicar...monsieur, I am Muslim. I am not a good Muslim, but I am Muslim, if you want Catholic you're looking at the wrong person, that's Bianchi you look for. Secondly -- I'm a Legionnaire. "Légionnaire, you are a volunteer serving France with "Honour and Fidelity"." So I'm sorry, but you are not my superior, and I'm sure you have many fine traditions, but I'm already serving France.

[he falls into a defensive position, fists at the ready and arms out. His face is angry, but soon settles into a forced calm, lips pursed. When he speaks, his voice is slow and overly enunciated.]

I am Nasim Belhadj, I am a Legionnaire, [the next words are rushed and at the end his calm cracks] and I am not where I was posted. [another tightening of his lips. He berates himself, why does he talk like this, this is NOT what Legionnaires do, he should act without passion or hatred and so it is with extreme formality that he says the next few words]

I would like to know where I am.
