I'm interested in everyone's experience -- were there long lines? how was the crowd? did people seem prepared or agitated? what's the mood like? etc. feel free to talk about your experience in the comments ( Read more... )

My morning was lovely. On the way out the door I chatted briefly about the various Baltimore city bonds up for vote with my downstairs neighbor, very social ( ... )

The sense of community in my precinct was pretty cool -- I saw people from my apartment building, people I recognize from waiting at the bus stop each morning, people I bump into at my grocery store. I really liked that sense of knowing who my neighbors are and knowing that they are as civic minded as I.

And it is a beautiful day -- the temperature is perfect and fall is at its peak!!

Got up a little before 4:00 PM so I could be at my voting station at 5:30 PM. The line was snaking around the school building by the time I got there at 5:40 PM, and the poll didn't even open until 6:00 PM.

It was the first time I have voted here that they went with paper ballots instead of the touch machines (although they were also available). That concerns me a bit, although having 10 stations for paper votes - compared to only 3 stations for electronic votes - was probably the wisest time-wise.

Got out just before 6:30 AM and still made it to work by 7:00 AM. (Although I'm starting to crash now...)

I slid through on being an "H" myself. I waited until after 10am and the line was very manageable. (I was offered a PAPER ballot along with the machine. WTF? We're going back to paper? What are we doing next time? Going down to town hall and raising our hands?) But it was a fine moment, I thought about my parents, who remember a time when they could not vote, who today got to cast their vote for Obama.
