That Damned Language Barrier

Somebody called me a 'doorstop' today. I was nowhere near a door, so door is a bit confusing. I was actually in a state of rather rapid motion at the time, so stop also makes no sense. Was he a geek? Because it could mean obsolete (as in an out of date computer is no use as anything except a doorstop.

Although it doesn't sound like the right answer in this case.

The thing is, he said "doorstop" the way other people say "bitch." It was sort of a deep rumble turned snarl. So I'm assuming he meant something bad. It could have been a compliment, I suppose, or an acknowledgment of my superior wit at deciphering that difficult code painted on the stairs. But I still don't want to encounter him in another stairwell anytime soon.

And I can't say that he looked like any of the geeks I know. As a certified computer geek, I feel qualified to judge. If anything, I'd say he looked like a football player. But not the Winning Touchdown type. More like the player who ran the wrong way with the football and had to be tackled by his own teammates type. That might be it, actually... The numerous blows to the head probably scrambled his brain.
