Three Signs Chapter 1 A soft knock on the door snapped Morgan away from his slumber. He clicked the nightlight on.
Reid was standing in the doorway, bare feet shifting nervously back and forth. He was in his stripy pyjamas, and his hair looked like a hurricane had tried to comb it.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
“It` funny.” Reid tried to tug his hair behind his ears. “I can sleep in a motel, but I can’t sleep on someone’s guest room. Did I wake you?”
“Yeah, but that’s alright.”
“Okay. I…. Can I come in?”
“Sure.” Morgan patted the mattress. “I got a lot of room.”
Reid crawled onto the bed, and sat down with his legs crossed under him.
“So….” Morgan waited for Reid to say something. “Did you get any sleep?”
“Not really, just tossed and turned.”
“That explains your hair.”
“Yeah….” Reid bit his bottom lip, like he was making some sort of decision. Then he leaped against Morgan and pressed their lips together. He managed to wriggle himself out of his pyjama top before Morgan pulled back.
“What?”
“Baby…. Not that I don’t appreciate initiative, but…. What’s going on?”
“I thought that was pretty obvious.” Reid blushed.
“Yeah, it is, but two hours ago you wanted to spend the night in my guest room, and now you’re bouncing on me and kissing me close to oblivion.”
“I told you.”
“What?”
“That we can’t do anything until I’ve ended it with Mark. Now it’s over so….”
“I doesn’t mean we have to do somehing right away.”
“Oh. Right.” Reid grabbed his pyjama top and pulled it back on. “Sorry, I… Good night.” He tried to get up from the bed, but Morgan grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
“I didn’t mean it like that. I was just trying to say that you don’t need to-”
“Morgan, I got the message. I’ll just…. let you get back to sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Shut up for a minute.” Morgan flipped Reid onto his back and moved on top of him, blocking his escape. “I didn’t mean I don’t want it. Right now I have use all my willpower so I don’t rip those hideous pyjamas.”
Reid took a deep breath and pulled Morgan closer for another kiss.
“Rip away.”

Present
“I thought you were done.” Morgan commented.
Reid lifted his eyes from the screen of his laptop. He was sitting cross-legged on the bed, and his glasses were about to slide down his nose.
“I finished my article when you were out. Did you remember to wash the paws?”
“Paws?”
“Clooney’s paws. If you don’t do that when you come in, the miniscule amounts of bacteria from the mud may-”
“I rolled him against the runner.”
“Tell me you’re joking.”
“I’m joking, I washed his paws. Do I get a reward for that?”
“Why should you get a reward for that? He’s your dog, I’m just consulting.”
“Because now he’s not gonna jump on the bed with muddy paws?”
“He hasn’t jumped on the bed for ages, since he realised he doesn’t get any treats for two days if he does that. That’s canine conditioning 101.”
“When exactly did you condition him?”
“When you were on that training course for a week.”
“Is that when you trained him to growl at me when I’m wearing my party clothes?”
“Yep.”
“Why?”
“I’ve told you before: You look like a high-class rent boy when you’re wearing that stuff. I did consider burning them, but then I thought it may be a little bit too much.”
“Forget I said anything…” Morgan groaned. He pulled his sweaty T-shirt off. “I’m gonna take a shower.”
Reid didn’t respond, he just kept tapping the keys of his laptop.
“Baby?”
“Did you say something?”
“Yeah.” Morgan gave him a worried glance.
“What? Something wrong?”
“Yes, something is obviously wrong. When I come home from my jog, sweaty and shirtless and you don’t even notice me, something is definitely wrong.”
“Sorry.” Reid gave him a crooked smile. “I’m waiting for something from Garcia and… I’m little bit nervous. I needed something to do so I started to write an article on geographical probabilities in profiling.” Reid looked down at the screen. “It came.”
“What is she sending you?”
“I just asked her to make a background check on somebody. Current adress and all that.”
“Who?”
“Mark’s brother.”
“Don’t tell me you’re still going on about that-”
“I just want to settle it once and for all.”
“How?”
“I wrote him a letter. I tried to collect every thing that I wanted to say and put it on paper.” Reid clicked the e-mail and opened the attached copy of the man`s DMV records.
“You think that will bring you some kinda closure?”
“Hopefully. I didn’t even think about it for a long time, but now it came back to my mind I and I can’t get rid of it."
“So you’ll just send him a letter? That’s all?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”
“Good.” Reid was about to continue when he spotted something on the bottom of the screen. His mouth hanged open, and he couldn’t get a word out.
“What is it?”
Reid turned the screen so that Morgan could see it.
