1. What are you listening to right now?
"david's lamentation," by the good players. i went to high school with the singer and a bunch of past members!
2. What song makes you sad?
a lot of songs make me happy and very sad at the same time. one such: "top of the world," by the dixie chicks. another: johnny cash's cover of "hurt."
3. What is the most annoying song in the world?
well, one of: that year 2525 song. it gets STUCK.
4. Your all time favorite band?
not a band, but ani difranco. probably pearl jam is my favorite actual band.
5. Your newly discovered band is?
let's see. i hear a lot of new music these days. i really like the coconut records song i keep hearing on the radio. do the good players count, since i didn't really newly discover stephen, but the band is new to me? the last newly discovered band for which i have a full cd is probably band of horses.
6. Best female voice?
don't know. my favorite female singer is ani but i don't know if she has the best voice.
7. Best male voice?
i am partial to thom yorke and chris cornell, but i'm not sure if i'm answering the question.
8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?
moody rock of all stripes. but i listen to everything. really, from gospel to indie to hyphy.
9. What do you listen to, to hype you up
depends on what kind of hyped we're talking. loud rock, bubble gum pop, the b-52s, dj cheb i sabbah, motown or new soul, prince, stuff like that. on long car trips when i am trying to stay awake, i listen to a lot of tenacious d.
10. What do you listen to when you want to calm down?
calm but not sad? the Extreme soundtrack, r. carlos nakai, dean evenson's Ocean Dreams album, the brokeback mountain soundtrack, the dreamworld compilation, quiet indie, a tribe called quest, stuff like that.

12. Band you find yourself listening to the most right now?
right now? i've been listening to a ton of erin as a result of that gig. a lot of nirvana's first album. the good players (and the entire november '08 paste cd sampler).

i don't think i have an all-time hated. i am not fond of five finger death punch. i always end up calling them five finger donkey punch by mistake. whoops.

to a small degree, songs like "handlebars," by flobots. to a greater degree, songs with really complex melodies or particularly poetic lyrics. radiohead, always.

i am fond of busta rhymes's "put your hands where my eyes can see."

i am also a sucker for videos with dance in them. hence michael jackson, janet jackson, justin timberlake, christina aguilera, jennifer lopez, chris brown oh man chris brown, usher, etc. i love them all. even britney.

i like some. i like a lot of metal in general.

big big? r.e.m. and tom waits within a week of each other qualify as pretty big, i think. those were this summer. (also modest mouse and the national along with r.e.m. and johnny marr? stupendous.)

a little bit, yeah. i try to squelch those instincts.

ani, no doubt. there are many others, but she tops the list.

so much pot smoke at the ani concert in madison that i had to leave and sit in the lobby because the smell was turning my stomach.

erin mckeown referring to "cheap ashtrays from your trip to emotional niagara falls." also asking if there were any children in the audience, and upon ascertaining that there were not, whispering "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" into the microphone.

ani in colorado springs was obviously in a lot of emotional turmoil. that was pretty hard to watch at moments.

well, the breeders are local...so are guided by voices. i also like shrug and sleepybird.

a guitar. specifically, a 1968 martin d-35, brazilian rosewood.

i listen to sirius a lot (satellite radio) and my school's radio station, wwsu. also the npr station at miami of ohio. if i were in colorado springs still, it'd be 94.3 kilo.

not these days. used to, but mostly for beavis and butthead.

again, not these days. used to when i worked in music.

sort of, yeah.

oh my yes. many family members and half the people i went to high school with.

i used to know that stuff in high school. i really don't anymore.

occasionally, not much.

i dig the soundtracks to extreme, out cold, garden state, swingers, and especially brokeback mountain.

my dad listens to the beatles, any musician he's currently looking to produce, and talk radio. also he'll get on weird jags where he listens to the eagles or nina simone or someone random. i once found a partridge family album that he had to have bought after he turned 30.
my mom listens to folk and motown. but she knows people like flea and chris martin and stuff. and she just told me about seeing ravi coltrane in new york last summer. my mom constantly surprises me.

"all i need," by radiohead. (also, nine's answer: No Aloha by The Breeders. GREAT song. just had to comment there.)

yeah. not to the concert, generally, but yes.
59. What do you think of people who do?
i think they like the music, unless they got the t-shirt at a vintage shop or it is one of those faux vintage shirts from target. and maybe then they still like the music.
60. What music sub-culture do you feel like you belong to?
not sure. i listen to a lot of hard rock/metal, but i'm not sure i belong totally to the subculture. i'm a little closer to the indie subculture, i guess.

same song i'm listening to. but "david's lamentation" has been there for days now.

not much these days, sad to say. used to all the time.

i don't now because i shower so damn early and i'm not really awake yet. also i am trying to be quick now that i pay for the water. before, i used to sing a lot of stuff with range. really liked singing "who's loving you," by smokey robinson, as done by the jackson 5. that's still a favorite.
64. Would you rather marry a musician or be one yourself?
i guess i would rather be one in general, but if we're talking working musicians, i guess i would rather marry one. but musicians also, in my experience, tend to be very intense people. so i dunno.
66. How important is your partner's taste in music to you?
more than i would like to admit. i don't think of myself as a music snob, but i can get judgmental.
67. Hanson moves in next door to you, do you go introduce yourself, or do you arrange to beat them?
Introduce myself and then tell everyone I've ever met that I'm friends with them. <---ooh, me too. :) and also maybe try to make out with the middle one a little bit

can we amend it to sex, microbrews and dry riesling, and rock 'n roll?

james brown, baby! he is the best for cooking to music. prince is good, too.
