Why hello there!

Why hello there! *waves to all the shiny new friends I picked up at the friending meme* Which, I might add, has gone on to a second post due to high traffic. GO HERE if you also think that fandom on LJ does not have to be dead and would like an easy way to meet new people. I was personally quite excited to find a couple of people that I follow ( Read more... )

Wait, you were at Lumos in 2006? So was I! I wonder if we ran across each other at any point? (I was probably the one looking miserable in the corner - I had reverse culture shock really badly and in retrospect, should never have gone.)

Really? OMG! What crowd did you hang out with? I was at the H/D meetup and hanging about with the slashers and people from Hogwarts Elite. So Wook, Anael, JaniceChess, Mijan, Furiosity, EmmaGrant, HazelHawthorne and then some.

Honestly, I didn't really hang with anyone. I roomed with sheryl, and there was a family I hung with a little (who aren't on LJ and I've lost touch with them), but I was pretty seriously not with it when I was there - I'd just come back from Kyrgyzstan about a month before, and I was suffering reverse culture shock really badly. I went to a couple of the presentations, and I helped out here and there, but mostly I kept to myself. Miserable person in the corner, that was me.

(I used to have my Lumos pics online; I think I took most of them down. I don't see myself in any of yours, though.)

But it's too funny that you were there too - and I'm glad you had a better time than I did. I'd love to give another convention another shot, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

Yeah, start small. Maybe a regional sci-fi/fantasy con if you've got multiple interests. Otherwise, one of the smaller Sherlock- or slash-centric cons would do. Something where you can identify at least a small contingent of people you already know from onlin that you can cling to.

I sew, but I'm pretty much an amateur. I'd love to actually make historical costumes someday!

I am a terribly lazy Pagan. Very kitchen witch in style and execution

Hi there, fellow Pagan! I'm eclectic w/ a strong Hellenistic bent.

Hey, so long as you start at the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum, historical costume isn't out of your realm. It's when you start dressing like the upper classes that it gets complicated and pricey.
