Done with radiation!!
Tuesday was my final radiation treatment. Everyone I've talked with about things says it will take about two weeks to see any significant improvement with symptoms. Considering that I've noticed tiny, baby, incremental improvements already, I think it's safe to say things won't get any worse, which was a possibility ( Read more... ) -

Due to me wanting to miss as little work as possible, my radiation therapy will start on the 19th. I'm having a couple of problematic teeth taken care of in the morning, which will allow me enough time to be healed before my jaw gets bombarded with photons (anyone have a Star Trek costume?). So said my darling 2 1/2-year-old when I had finished shaving my beard. This is the first time I've been clean-shaven since November of 1994. It feels really funny. There's breezes and stuff that I was insulated from before. Guys actually do this, on purpose, when they don't have to, every freakin day. Weird.

Coming to terms
It's official. Barring any complications thrown in my way by my dentist, on November 13th I'll be starting a 7-week course of radiation therapy to try and keep me from getting any more tumors.

The next time you move, do your best to hand your change of address (COA) form directly to your mail carrier about a week before your move, or at least let your carrier know the date you are moving. The new COA system is a centralized processing center that prints out a sticker notifying the carrier that a customer has filed a COA. If you don't ( Read more... ) -

Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't stop their car, hop out, and hand me some mail to send out. I'm not on a major street, it's a residential neighborhood. What do people do, drive around at random with their bills looking for a mailman to hand them to? They'll spend $2 in gas to send a 41 cent letter. Dr. Kaplan discussed my case with the Stanford University Tumor Board, and the unanimous decision was "strongly recommend radiation therapy." The encouraging part is that off the top of his head, he recommended a radiation oncologist in Sacramento with no hesitation. Now to get my HMO to send me there ( Read more... ) -
Doing much better
Went to the State Fair today. I expected to be totally wiped, but am only reasonably tired. Granted, we didn't run all over creation trying to see every thing, but we got there in time for the limited edition toy giveaway and stayed until fireworks were over.
