Postage Rate Changes
Don't forget that the new postage rates go in to effect May 12. The new 42 cent stamps are available for sale, and the flag stamps are very pretty. There is not going to be a non-denominated stamp for this increase as there was enough lead time for the rate to make it on the new stamps. Stock up on those Forever stamps now, if you can.

Postage rate increase, May 12th

Postage rates are going to go up on May 12th, 2008 (the day after Mother's Day). A First Class letter up to one ounce will be 42 cents. Other postage rates will also increase. More information can be found here: USPS.com

Old stamps
Just about everyone has old stamps kicking around. Many of them don't have a value printed. Use this handy pictorial guide to help you. If you have uncanceled stamps that say "presort," "nonprofit," or "bulk" please don't try to use them to send a letter unless you have a valid permit for that kind of stamp. The day your regular mailman delivers the mail 45 minutes later than normal, in the rain, is NOT the day to call him back to your house from two houses down so you can tell him your son no longer lives at an address in another zip code, but at some other address in another city. Unless, of course, you want a grumpy, wet mailman.

Vote by mail
Voting by mail is convenient, inexpensive, and provides a verifiable paper ballot. If you are able to do so, register as a permanent mail voter. No lines, no unpaid time off work, vote in the comfort of your own home. Vote by mail, or absentee, voters are statistically much more likely to actually cast a ballot.

Not much, and just barely, but I can taste sweet things again! I started eating soft solids yesterday, and we went to Fresh Choice for dinner tonight.
