invisible and angry about it

First off before I get started. I am trying to copy Ians DVD's. All I have is a DVD burner and no program. I downloaded a demo program and tried to copy a DVD. It says that it is protected and I cant burn It. Can I get around this? OR am I screwed and can only get movies off the net and burn them? I am so in the dark about this whole process
