General Plot and Story of Tales of Hearts, via Aselia's wikipedia page for the game. [ Personality ] :
Kohaku, admittedly, is a complex character. It’s a little difficult to put her personality into words, because there are a lot of aspects of her personality that are essentially spelled out for you. After her spirune is shattered, the pieces of her shattered spirune are slowly collected throughout the game, and each part of her spirune represents a different emotion. Kindness, Fear, Doubt, Trust, Happiness, and Anger are just among the multitudes of emotions that make up Kohaku Hearts. Because this is one of those rare instances in which her personality is sort of slowly spelled out for us, however, it’s difficult to actually put words to the woman. But, without further ado, here is my attempt at it.
First and foremost, Kohaku is a kind girl. She cares for the safety of others, and for the entire world. But though she is kind, she isn’t blinded by that kindness, and has a good sense of right and wrong, and if one of her friends are being dumb, she’ll do what she can to set them back on the right path, whether it be through words or through action. With this sense of right and wrong comes a sense of determination, as well. If there is something that must be done, Kohaku sacrifices even her own well-being for the sake of getting the job done. This can be both a blessing and a curse; there are negative effects of her determination to do the right thing, naturally, in that she can have a tendency to push herself to the point of harming herself.
Kohaku can be extremely overprotective of the people she loves and cares about. Once she trusts someone, she does whatever she can to put their well-being above that of her own, which, of course, can have the aforementioned negative effects as well. But her trust in people can also have good effects; if she trusts in someone, she generally does not question them, or try to hold them back when they try to do something crazy.
Kohaku has learned through her journeying with everybody that she can’t give up. She had a fairly decent sense of persistence before, but it only grew stronger with how much more perilous the journey became, and of course, how much more time she spent around Shing.
Kohaku is a generally happy girl. She loves to tease her friends, and she has a fairly normal sibling relationship with her brother, Hisui, and sometimes uses his overprotective nature to her advantage just to tease him. She loves to laugh, and enjoys having fun. She doesn’t ever really stay depressed for very long. Despite having all of these positive qualities about her, though, Kohaku isn’t all sunshine and butterflies and rainbows.
She can get flustered and/or irritated fairly easily, and when she does feel this, she tends to act on it by kicking whoever it is who’s making her feel that way. Usual victims are Hisui and Shing, but this can definitely extend to others if they get her irritated enough for it.
She does get angry, but on the positive, she knows how to turn that anger and channel it into more determination, if necessary. Or she can just channel it into kicking the person who made her angry. Whichever seems more appropriate.
Depression happens with Kohaku, as it does with any other character. While she does show capability to be depressed for a long time, that’s not often the case with her, due to how much of a support group she usually has. She feels the need to be strong for those who are counting on her, and that’s probably the biggest thing that drives her to cheer up when things are bad.
Kohaku can find it easy to trust in people, but she can also be very skeptical of people until she finds a reason to trust them. She seems to be able to see the good in some people, while in others, she needs to take some time to warm up to them before she can say she trusts them. It’s a fairly fine line between doubt and trust with her.
TL;DR, KOHAKU IS COMPLEX. And really hard to write a personality section for.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : This really doesn't pertain much to anything in relation to the game, tbh, but I know that some of the muns in the game who know Tales of Hearts may also know Kohaku more as 'Kohak.' I just wanna make it clear that if someone is accustomed to using that spelling of her name, I won't have Kohaku ignore them, or not respond when spoken to with that particular spelling. I'm totally okay with going along with what everybody is most comfortable with. :) I just know that, personally, I'm going to go with what I'm most accustomed to using for her.
