( ooc: backdated to after this happened. )

note to self. next time you try to play a stringed instrument, make sure you've invested in lessons beforehand.

You tried to play the banjo? I must confess; I have some experience with stringed instruments but I did not dare try it.

I tried, but I didn't do so well.

Stringed instruments can be a lot more complex than they look. After well over a year I am still far from approaching average with the shamisen.

Really? Oh, wow ... I've actually never thought about taking lessons to learn an instrument until now. I never really had the time for it before. Now ...

Well, I do need something to keep me busy here.

I'm fine. It was a little scary, though. He didn't look too happy when the tune I played wasn't all too pleasing to the ears ...

...oh. I'm glad you're alright, then.

You gave it your best try, at least.

At least now I know I'm not the only one that tried without having a clue.

It seemed worth a shot anyway, right?

Admittedly, I might have been thinking a little like my boyfriend when I tried it ... he's more the type to pull out all the stops no matter what if there's a chance it could help things. He must be rubbing off on me.

If I didn't know better I'd say you just described me.

So you're like that too? You should meet Shing.

... if he ever arrives here.

[Sarcasm/cranky face incoming. B( He clears his throat before speaking.]

...probably would have been rid of the damn thing a lot sooner if people thought about lessons. But then again, who the hell thinks banjo lessons would do them any good, yeah?

[ alrighty, she'll switch to voice, too! ]

Isn't it ironic how something like that can end up helping in the longrun? I definitely never thought it would.

[A slight snort from his end.]

Guess you gotta expect the unexpected here, this place throws all sorts of shit at you.

[A pause and a shrug.]

I just steered clear of this one though, figured if I waited long enough someone else'd get rid of the giant freak.

I haven't been here for very long, so the unexpected is just starting to be thrown at me.

[ she sighs a little. ]

I hope someone had better skills than I did. The instrument actually seemed to have an effect on it.
