I got a crock pot and a water-bath canner (finally!) and last night made pureed spaghetti sauce (tomatoes, mushrooms, sausage and spices - well blended) and have two beautiful quart jars of shiny red sauce sitting on my table. A pot of split pea is simmering away while I am at work today. Soon I will have rebuilt my safety net of soups and salsas and veggies packed in jars .... it feels good. It feel like spring and Home.
Petrouchka's food was all glorious, but Fi and I were particularly fond of the Pelmeni -- that was comfort food, especially when life was getting in the way of Life. We would always feel better about things in general after a bowl of pelmeni at Petrouchka.
How did I know you were going to mention the Dill. :}
I miss that wonderful black bread they had, too, all warm and crusty - Store-boughten russian rye doesn't seem to exist up here, and even if it did, it wouldn't be as good. I'm pretty sure they either made it there or contracted with a local bakery. Gosh, it was yummy.
Anyway, food om nom nom. Tonight, after work, I'm making a fresh batch of Lentil-Everything Soup - but I'll probably have this for dinner, because it's fast.

Not that their version WAS simply "palatable"...it was a True Joy.
