I thought of that too when I first read it. I blame U.S. News and World Report. Maybe it's that we're evolving to a point where we can't talk about wired campuses anymore, we've advanced to unwired- although dewired might be a better term to express the progression from the static to the almost ephemeral nature of wireless access. Wireless seems to imply that there were never wires there. Either way, it makes me super happy to have an airport card.
