I went and heard Sedaris read a few months ago here in Denver... Of course i knew it already from This American Life - but his stories are a good fifty times better when he reads them...
is it his voice or the way he tells them? i went to a theater production of the Santaland Diaries and it wasn't the same, but was still pretty good. i love him on TAL, so i'm sure he'll be that much greater live.
It could be both - particularly with as often as he does live readings, he's pretty adept the comic timing in his own material... He knows where the laugh is. but something about how he is always the pathetic character in his stories is really enhanced by his voice.
I'm surprised that you wanna go see Eisley and the Colour. wow. I want to go but I can't make it to the San Diego show, so I'm going to try to see them at the Troubadour on Monday
I accompanied my friend Risa (the one that is really into the "Hollywood Scene") to this Special Fox Racing sponsored private party at the Standard Hotel in Downtown LA, and The Colour played, that was the first time I'd seen or heard of them, but they were pretty cool. We met a couple of guys that turned out to be good friends with them too. I didn't know they had gotten that big.
As for Eisley, I saw them open for Brand New but didn't really think much of them, until like 6 months later, I heard their song "Marvelous Things" on MTV-U one time. And since I don't get that station where I live, that song haunted me until I obtained it for myself. So I got really into them for a while. I like their harmonies. And yes, the girls are cute. And they're SISTERS!

i realized that there is an LA show. i avoid SOMA at all costs if at all possible, and spend as much time in LA as possible too, so it works out better. plus it's on a Saturday..
not to say that i would turn down a connection if you had one..
