“You really think it’s supposed to go on that long?” Vaan asked Penelo, whose face was turning redder and redder by the second.

“I don’t know,” she replied, “Al-Cid said it was the way you welcome a friend on their first visit to your home in Rozarria.”

Vaan cocked his head to the side, watching Ashe’s hand ball up into a fist as Al-Cid kissed her cheeks and the corners of her lips again and again. Needless to say, life in Rozarria differed from Dalmasca quite a bit. “Do you think he was lying?”

“Why would he lie to Ashe?” Penelo’s eyes widened. “Oh no, I think he’s going to try and…”

The sound of Ashe’s gloved hand slapping the Rozarrian aristocrat almost hurt his ears. “That’s enough!” Ashe fumed. “I feel all too welcome!”

Al-Cid stepped back, rubbing his sore cheek. He turned away from the furious Queen of Dalmasca and looked in their direction. Penelo clung to his arm then. “You don’t suppose he’s going to welcome us, do you?”

Basch waits patiently for the invectives to die down, working on his draft judgment. He’s been given a thick stack of case notes by his associates, along with several helpful texts, and he thinks he might just be beginning to understand what the hell all the legal conundrum about insider trading might be. He just understood what insider trading was yesterday, but nobody was counting ( ... )

He looked too pale, lying there. The sheets were dark, too, throwing his white skin into sharp contrast. His face was slack, expressionless - Baralai had never seen him like that, before, not even in sleep.

Not so much as a finger twitched.

And it didn't matter what the Al Bhed tried to tell him in their clumsy, broken attempts at Spiran - that Gippal was going to be okay, that he was going to live, that Baralai had simply healed faster and there was nothing to worry about - Baralai couldn't not worry.

But he couldn't stick around, either. He had things to do. He was going to get to the bottom of all this if it took him to his last breath. What had happened in that cave had not been natural - what Nooj had done had not been natural. There were answers out there, and he was going to find them ( ... )

Paine had heard stories of Nooj the Undying. Bards sang his praise and little children fighting with sticks played at being him.

When she first met him, her only thought was that she hadn't expected he would be so normal.

Of course, he wasn't really normal. He was quite handsome, actually, and a little on the tall side. He was also half-machina, which, although she'd known prior to meeting him, was still a bit of a shock ( ... )
