[ There is no advanced notice when Naoya posts; it simply happens tonight. And he seems to be much happier--he discovered, today, there was coffee at the marketplace. Mmm yes thank you, caffeine. As such, he has a slightly clearer mind now. ]Well, aren't these communicators just quaint? I'm sure you're all becoming accustomed to our new prison, ( Read more... )

I don't think we're being drugged - it could be a side effect of being here. Or maybe it's that thing that's always following us around. I've been feeling really lethargic and drained since I got here ... I take it the same is for you?

What's more there was a strange man in the square today. He didn't have one, but he.. didn't seem to have his wits about him. This Lamufao that brought us - you think it's a demon? They're just fair-- [ Well she can't even say that, as much as she's seen already. 0

They're creatures of darkness, right?

Neither do I. I have to admit, however, it is a possibility. But there isn't enough 'toxic' back-up or shared worsening of symptoms to suggest a drugging or a poisoning of any kind. That is why I think the process of bringing us here, or something related to it, is why everyone is so tired.

[ There's a sigh on this end, and a long pause.] ... Normally, being tired is easy to fix with sleep... however, this is a different kind of fatigue. But to answer your questions: no, I don't think the light following us is the cause, and yes, it is also happening to me, and others.

[ Another pause. ] It's likely it is a demon; the light following us may be it's remote way of tracking our movements, I believe. Demons were not made of darkness--some are aligned or use it, though. That is true. But a long time ago, the word 'Demon' literally meant a Spirit, or Divine power. It comes from the Greek word "daimon ( ... )

Interesting... I didn't know that about demons. The way people talk about them, they seem to indicate that demons were separate creatures from spirits and angels - but really it's just all about intent, isn't it? Just like there are bad and good people, the same goes for demons, or spirits- or whatever you want to call them.

You might be right about that light being a way of identifying us. That old man I saw didn't have one though. [ Oo, hopefully he wasn't the result of what happened to people once they were drained of their energy. Ugh. ] My friends are more familiar with this other worlds thing, but...

Well, it's just disturbing the level of interest the inhabitants are showing us - all the new arrivals. I mean, they're hospitable, sure, but there's something about just how hospitable they are that's bothering me. Have you found out anything new about this place? How to get back home, or maybe that coral?

Yes, that is precisely my point. Angels, however, lack free will. They do only as He wishes them to do. They will kill for their creator, do whatever he so pleases... so tell me: who is worse? That which would kill you without second thought, or that which is kind enough to make a pact and protect you...?

[ ... Hopefully not. He doubted that, though. ] On the note of other worlds: it is generally know to me that there is Earth, the netherworld--where the demons reside, and Heaven. Otherwise, I was unaware other worlds existed. If that is the case, it may explain why so many of us have discrepancies in our beliefs and what is and is not the norm.

[ Naoya pauses at her last few questions. He'll help her for now--he had no reason to lie. ... Not yet. ] ... You are correct. Their interest is hardly out of kindness. Unfortunately, all I can tell you is that what you already know: we've been marked three-fold. The first being the tattoo or brand somewhere on your body, and the second and third being these glowing orbs and our fatigue.

Drugging is one idea. However that is only temporary. If our captors were smart, they would not take the chance of having to try to knock us out again to administer more of the drug. I would be willing to pin the blame on that 'Lamufao', if any proof were to be given that deities or demons exist.

On the other hand, this could very well be an advanced civilization that utilizes science to create the barrier that protects them from the water pressure, as well as maintain a constant supply of oxygen.

Though no matter how many ways you turn it, it's bound to sound like some bad novel with numerous plotholes at this point in time. Have you tried speaking with the locals for more information yet?

[ ... There's a long trail of laughter on this end of the communicator. Naoya is just... amused. ]

Please, demons are very commonplace. Would it be that difficult to believe that their little water deity is one?

[ Pause. ] However, being man-made... yes, that is a possibility. However, after speaking with some of the people here, I can say their entity is either a hive mind of some form, or one being. I do not think this is entirely technology at work. At least, not entirely.

[ God, you have officially amused him. ] Ah, but isn't life a bad novel? Truth is stranger than fiction, as the saying goes.

[What a narrow-minded person. He's almost tempted to disagree with him as a principle.]

Ah, and this is where you have to start realizing something else. Demons are commonplace for you, and as far as I'm aware, demons are just what you call someone who ruined your day. Something like how others are claiming to be ninjas, how some are capable of emitting electric sparks subconsciously, and how the definition of 'normal' varies from person to person.

And I fail to recognize how this could all be blamed on a demon or deity whose existence has still yet to be proven. People are quick to flock to whatever reasoning they can get, and having a single deity to either worship for their salvation or blame for their unfortune is the easiest solution. So while they are free to think their beloved Lamufao is the cause of it all, it may very well be some type of chemical reaction or mysterious benefactor with a scientific background who is keeping them alive ( ... )

[ Naoya... hates it when his logic is corrected. Luckily you cannot see the scowl, or hear it, on your end. Did this person think he hadn't considered all of that already...? Of course he had. ]

I'm beginning to wonder just how different our 'commonplace' is. I suppose this "other worlds" theory holds some amount of clout to it, in the end. While I wouldn't put it past the original residents of this place to be easily brainwashed--especially after watching how they treated that veiled woman--I would think that, at least for the time being, it's worth investigating every angle of our situation.

[ He's a skeptic himself, but he's seen to much to know what is and is not real, unfortunately. ] But by all means, if you can find whomever is behind this... or whatever, I'd like to see it. Technology is a simple affair... as is coding. It wouldn't be hard to replicate it with the proper materials, after all. And it would be invaluable in leaving this place ( ... )

[Still of "this guy is a lunatic" mindset.]

Well, I'm hearing Japanese, at least.

[Intentionally switching to English now]

So can you understand me now?

[Voice] first_scorned February 14 2010, 04:52:13 UTC
[ Naoya just smirks from his end. You can almost hear it. But he begins speaking German--and you can hear a German accent through his English to your ears back, Billy. ]

I'm afraid I do.

[ Just how many languages can Naoya remember? ... A few. Enough, anyway. ]

[Voice] aimforthesun February 14 2010, 04:54:09 UTC
Then either all languages are being translated, or you're just multilingual.

[Likewise, Billy's also smirking.]

So what's the conclusion?

[Voice] first_scorned February 14 2010, 05:02:56 UTC
Then perhaps we should be testing this on others who only know their native tongue. ... Mind you, I ran into a detective earlier that was American and seemed to understand me just fine, despite speaking Japanese.

[ He just shakes his head on this end. ] Either these orbs of light are here to translate for us, or they are here to follow us. The communicator can't be the cause, as speaking face to face has the same effect.

[ ... It was like subtitles, almost. ]

All this is very unsettling, but I'm hesitant to believe we were drugged. I doubt we have any choice but to believe the Priestess' words for now.

Are demons not the same as monsters?

Reply

[Voice] first_scorned February 14 2010, 11:44:58 UTC
... As am I. It's unlikely... however, it is a possibility. You have to realize as kindly as you may think these people are, it's likely just an act. Either they are afraid of us, or they want us... placated so that they do not HAVE to fear a revolt, even if doing so would be foolish, after all.

You are giving that Priestess too much benefit, and not enough doubt.

[ Ah, now you're getting to an interesting topic; Naoya shifts a bit. He was working on his COMP, but he was bored. This served to help him get his priorities in order as well as amuse him for the moment. ]Yes, and no. It depends on each demon in question, after all. They are no different than you or I may be. Angels are demons as well; seraphic types are a class all their own, actually. Divines. Aniel, Kazfiel, Remiel--all are some of the higher-ranked angels, but they are still, in technicality, demons ( ... )

[She's quiet for a moment, listening to the sounds on Naoya's end. Computers don't truly exist in her world, only technology developed by the Anmarcia, but such things are rare in the country of Windol. The clacking doesn't mean much to her.]

... Act or no, I believe we should make the best of things while we're here. If this is some sort of prison, surely people outside the city will notice and we'll be rescued before long.

Are you saying humans are worse than demons?

[Video] first_scorned February 14 2010, 12:36:41 UTC
[ There's some laughter, and the background noise stops. ]

... In case you didn't notice, outside this city is very far under a body of water. Even if authorities realized there had been a mass-kidnapping, how would they get down here without being crushed? This far down, judging from the bubbles, is enough to easily kill you ten or twelve times. It's not a pretty sight to be crushed by water pressure...

[ He seems so jaded to the idea, really. ... He is, actually. After a short noise once more, the screen on the other's SFC shows a young, good-looking older man smiling. ]

Ah, now we get to a true debate, hm...? Now, an optimist would say "humans have great capacity for love," which is true. However... humans have great capacity for hate as well. In the end, really, we are no better than most demons... but we are also no different in how we act, are we?

That explains the language mix-up.Giving up the soul isn't a myth where I come from; it's really what fuels the demons from coming to being. But I digress from the matter at hand. There are thousands of different kinds of demons depending on the religion--though from thesis I've read they're all the same, only taking in different names and different appearances that contrast with the religious beliefs of the region or populace ( ... )

In actuality, it's quite the opposite, in most cases. Humans have assigned 'holy' roles to demons. The word originated from the Greek word 'daimon', or nearly literally, 'spirit'; 'divine' power. It can also closely mean 'to divide', but demons are no different than angels. As I have stated previously... demons are neither good nor evil.

It is us who has given them that role.

[ Naoya actually listens to what he has to say, it's rather intriguing. There's... the noise of some form of beeping on his end, not from the SFC. ] Secondarily, 'souls' exist simply in humans. Demons have, very rarely, 'trace' memories of prior lives, but that is all. I believe the best example of how the human soul differs, though, would be in Biblical text itself. Try the old testament, I'm sure you'll read all about how malevolent God really is. The reason humans have souls is so that we may remember our past lives and so that He can simply always toy with us once we're dragged back to what I hesitate to call 'Heaven'.

[ He scowls, it's not visible, though ( ... )

That's going really far back, though. And besides, the term for a demon and its significance depends a lot on what a person believes. For instance, the 'demon' term known in Christianity holds very little similarity with the 'demons' I've seen, which come to being from a pact and offering of a soul in grief. There's nothing regarding the demon itself have a past life or such thing.

Besides, that's all assumptions made throughout the course of humanity on a very abstract subject. Whether gods, angels, or demons exist cannot be fully proven.

[ he notices the bitter tone, but simply flattens a little and lets it slide, listening to naoya's words. he mutters. ] I think you're hopping into linking alterations where you come from to try and figure out how where we are works.

[ There's a moment before he just... smiles. It can't be seen, but the grin almost echoes.] Of course it's very far back, but I've got a very good memory.

As for how your 'demons' seem to work... well. That is what I've been getting at: raw emotions can summon them on their own. Desire for help... greed... hate... anger. Human emotions are powerful things.

[ And at this, Naoya DOES laugh now. ] Now that is where you are very wrong. There IS a God, as well as a demon older than Him that came long before him. It went by the name of Bel. As for angels... well. I've seen enough in my lifetime to know they're merely puppets in his game... they lack free will, unlike demons, and will kill without a second thought. Perhaps we ought to reverse what we know about the words 'demon' and 'angel', hm~?

[ Oooh, you're talking his language. ] ... Well, if I can figure that out, then I can surely find a way back, in theory. The same should apply for how we got here, should it not?
