I'm not using acidplanet for any hosting because I'm not using Sony ACID, I'm using Apple Logic.
Anyway...
-- I like the first riff much more than the second riff. Your timing is a bit off on the second one and your gain is too low.
-- You play bass about as well as I do. It both gladdens my soul and means that one of us needs more practice. Since I'm not playing bass at the moment... :)
-- If you are recording in ACID, try putting a compression DSP insert into your recording chain. It should have a preset marked "BASS BOOST" of some kind. That should give your bass more punch. You could EQ it too to push up the lows, since on a bass you don't want any mids or highs, and that will give your Fender Bass a bit more oomph to the sound.
I don't know how to do this with ACID, since I've never used it, but it should be fairly simple to find something that says "Compression" and "EQ."
Thanks for the input. Truth be told, I recorded this initially with Audacity and then converted it with Sound Forge (that I got at a heavy discount). I haven't really started using any of the features yet because my thinking is that since I am miked through my headset speaker... I'd only be trying to polish a turd anyway.
I'll worry more about clean recordings when I start using a direct interface or get a better line in mike.
I agree with the others... the first one has much more character than the second. And since you have much more character, I would keep working on Funk #1. But good job overall on your accomplishments. You obviously have talent that has been long hidden away. Keep practicing so that it continues to flourish.

I am suddenly reminded that this weekend I must, must, MUST record some serious death metal ukulele. It will not be good. But it will be loud.
