OSCAR RACE '07

As usual, the Oscar nominations are a mixed bag.

My Top 10 list will be in INsite at the beginning of February, and naturally, most of my choices don't entirely coincide with what was nominated. But I would think I was losing my touch if they did ( Read more... )

The thing that surprised me most as I read through the list of nominees was how little I cared this year. I saw quite a few films that I enjoyed throughout the year, but I can't recall any that really moved me, or where I walked out thinking: "Wow, that's a great film." (I have not yet seen United 93.)

I will be looking forward to your list and comments to either remind me of films I may have forgotten or that I might not have seen. Hard as it may be to believe, there are films that just never make it to Indianapolis. :)

I previously indicated my abstention from this year's Oscars, so I'd appreciate periodic updates from the only other person I somewhat trust and sometimes agree with. This is a good start. Oh and next year we are SO doing Oscars for real. Deal?

"i'm a little sad to see united 93 here..."

??

once you've settled on your picks, be sure to post them in my journal--you've won once before, remember. :)

Not to put words into his mouth, but I'm assuming he meant he was sad to NOT see it there, because if it had snuck past and gotten nominated, he felt it had a chance to win.

I was most surprised about Iwo Jima really, since the New Yorker gave it a mediocre review and raved so much about Notes on a Scandal and Dreamgirls. And where are The Good Shepherd and The Good German? Did they miss the deadline?

Iwo Jima got pretty spectacular reviews from everywhere else, though. Notes on a Scandal had mostly good reviews but is just a little too nasty for Oscar. Dreamgirls was Mediocregirls and many reviews reflected that. As for The Goods, they were off the radar long ago without much support at all.

Did you ever post your tops of the year?

Would love a fivebyfive awards where you nominate and award the ones you like, of course with your witty and wonderous commentary ;)

Yes I will probably do that to coincide with my Top 10 List's publication. :)

I am glad you are so well-versed in my Awards Season tradition!
