Holy fuck... This might be the best crossover, ever! I like the idea of Merlin creating the first horcrux in existence to be immortal so he can see Arthut again. Really brilliant.

When reading about the Horcruxes in HBP, I always wondered who had invented them in the first place and for what purpose. Then I saw the prompt and just knew it had to be Merlin himself.

Thank you commenting! Poor Merlin was not able (or allowed) to let go and it drove him a little bit insane. Arthur's future return is a double-edged sword.

Afterwards, when Merlin cradles the crystal in his hands, Dumbledore knows who invented the first Horcrux.

Oh Merlin. Great if heartbreaking way of crossing over these two fandoms, of course it had to be Merlin who was the first, I like Dumbledore's realisation that love of all things was what brought this all about. Bravo!

Thank you! Merlin and the Horcruxes just matched, a little bit like the suspicion I have now of the 'Death' in the Tale of Three Brothers.

Love was such a central theme and force in HP that Merlin's love for Arthur and its consequences just fitted in.
