isn't Grendel the mommy monster from Beowulf?

Grendel is the first monster that Beowulf kills (er, rips the arm off of) THEN he fights a monster identified only as "Grendel's Mother." Then he fights the dragon at the end.

But Grendel was a monster, yes.
