Neither one. They're the same size.

Bingo. Fifty extra points if you know what this illusion is called.

Afraid I'll have to take a pass on that, unless it's something like "guess which circle is larger" or "contrasting circles".

Apparently it's called the Ebbinghaus illusion. Well, according to this book anyway.

Your name for it works just as well.

[Ven takes a long time just squinting and looking from image to image...

And after a little while.]

They're the same size, aren't they? But the second one looks a lot smaller...

Yup, they're the same size. It's an optical illusion.

Thought so.

[He laughs, and then scribbles something here. It's a little more complicated, but hey. These things are fun.]

[Oh well hello there, nice to see Ven play along.]

When you're not really looking at 'em. Not bad! That would be the-[Sound of pages flipping.] Hermann Grid Illusion. Know anymore?

[Oh, some guy greeted her while she was snooping out some more holy water - she didn't find much the other day and she got a tip it would be good to have around from someone (presumably Buffy).

And wow-]

Nice duds.

Ah-thanks, I think.

[A LITTLE TAKEN ABACK HERE. It's kind of weird getting a compliment. He tilts his head curiously at her, though. What were you over here snooping around for, hmm?]

...Don't get compliments a lot, do you?

[Folding her arms now, smirking a bit. Whatever she was doing is negated a bit now]

Heh, can't say I do. I guess long black coats just give off this vibe.

[It doesn't take long for Presea to find the answer. Her hyper senses caught the illusion in a second, and her encyclopedic knowledge of images like these is vast, so the answer comes very quickly from her, almost automatically.]

Neither is larger; both are of the same size. It is an optical illusion. ...By enlarging the circular shapes on the second image, and decreasing the size of the images on the first, the eye is drawn to those images and cannot quickly focus on the middlemost circle when laid side by side.

[...huh! He wasn't expecting such a thorough answer.]

Right on the button. Take it you've seen this one before?

It was an easy deduction to make.

[For someone like her that can see the dust mites in the rug if she concentrates hard enough.]
