Hey flemmarde. MGD tells me that you have travel tips for Laos. I'll be there with my sister and mum in a couple of months. We just started planning it, but we were thinking of going to Luang Prabang for a bit, and then down to Vientiane, possibly seeing some place on the Mekong for a bit.
i caught the slow boat up the mekong from luang prabang to the thai border. 2 days of absolute beauty, enjoyment and a slightly sore bum when my inflatable cushion got a puncture. LB is fabulous and you'd want a few days there. we also went to vang vieng and stayed by the river. we went on a kayaking trip which was great and also went off and stayed the night in a remote village - which was especially magical because we had our daughter with us and at the age of 7, she attracted every child in the village and taught them to play hopscotch, while they reciprocated with the local version of elastics. we organised that through a company in vientiane, but there's lots on offer at vang vieng anyway. the bus trip between LB and VV is absolutely breathtaking. vientiane was lovely (and the sleepiest capital city i've ever been in), and especially the french restaurants in the main square which is a circle
( ... )
Great! I've actually been to Laos... about 6 years back... and it sounds like you did a very similar trip to me. I wondered if you might have gone to a different area. I also loved Luang Prabang, and stopped in Vang Vieng. I never got into a village, but I suspect we will this time since my sister is sure to want to do that.
Laos was also my favorite place, especially after the bustle of Thailand. :-) I met a 15-year old monk in Luang Prabang who spoke to me for a few hours, told me about his goals, showed me some ancient scrolls. Really peaceful and laid back.
