I want to edit again. =\ I've got a lot of time and so much music I want to use, but I've been out of it for so long. I'm not even a viewer anymore, really. I check the Announcement forum every couple weeks for editors I know, and sometimes watch those. But so much anime has come out in my leave of absence I couldn't know where to begin. I ( Read more... )

I know the feeling. I'm not as disconnected from the community as you are, but I'm heading there. I need a new hobby too. You may want to consider what I was going to do, google for computer clubs/books clubs/whatever interests you in your local area and give those a shot. Unfortunately I setup my college schedule so I have classes 4 nights a week which conflicts with anything in my area.

Yeah, I think my community college has groups, I was just reluctant because... I've taken classes with these kids and I can't stand most of them. It feels like community college is what high school should be.

I feel more or less the same way. Although I have other hobbies to fill the void; I've been painting a lot recently (more because I have a painting class than because it's something I'd do on my own; though I enjoy it enough now that it'll become a hobby once the class finishes), and there's always reading. I don't think I'll ever stop editing altogether, but it's taken a back seat to other creative outlets that for me are more satisfying.

I've tried playing instruments, but I can't seem to get the hang of them. Bass, guitar, piano, just can't make them fit. I'd like to take classes, but I can't afford them.

THAT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT PLAYING HARD ENOUGH.

But there's always Rock Band/Guitar Hero!

But I already rock all the instruments in those games! I need more things to rock!

Meh, go for it, even you don't show them anywhere. And you never know how that practice could come in handy; the phone interview I had today asked if I had any video editing experience (for a position largely unrelated to video editing). Point: it may feed something later on, even if the individual pieces don't really go anywhere.

Yeah, but you have experience with companies that use computers and such. I don't think I can apply at Applebee's and put "video editing" on my application.

Learn advanced audio editing, then do the audio mix on my next movie so I don't have to :P

That sounds fantastic. I hate audio editing.

Can't force it. If you want to get new video ideas, I'd suggest first watching some new animé. Personally, most of my recent ideas (including everything I've completed since 2006, except my Masters video) have come from recent shows I was interested in, bought, watched, and *then* got AMV ideas for.
(Alternatively, find some new music and think of Evangelion, a tactic that seems to come easily to cyannas. :P )

And honestly, I haven't been a viewer either for some years now (outside of conventions), but I don't let that stop me.

The Eva method worked for me too. That's why I made two videos with it.

But, really, most of my inspiration comes from music. When I watch new anime I find it hard to get into the stories, so I look at it visually. And that's why I stopped watching anime in general, unless highly recommended.
