Sometimes, when there's lots of books about and absolutely nothing else to do, I pick one up and read it. I know, I know, my standards for entertainment have really dropped, but you know what? There's a lot of learning in books. I was reading one on the Roman army this afternoon and I learnt something really interesting. You know the word decimate? ( Read more... )

Yeah, but I don't really want their stuff. I just want to see them hexed to the wall. One in ten, anyway. If some people aren't willing to fess up them some innocent people will just have to take the rap.

If those "innocent people" happen to be my students, it will be your career that takes the rap, Flint. I may be an old biddy, but if you lay a hand on any of them, then by the Founding Four, I'll take you out...

All for the pursuit of knowledge, my good woman.

Alternatively you could just tell me.

I thought it sounded a bit unlikely. Oh, don't do that. I think you'd have to kill one tenth of the student population and some of them are very nice.

An unfortunate but necessary risk.

Ummm. What if they apologised? Profusely? Even though I had nothing to do with that bit at all. This is probably the worst moment to be not talking to Ginny!

Hm. You sound guilty.

Actually, I'm inherently paranoid. Not guilty.

But are you still going to attempt to hex said wrong-doers if they apologised?

I like paranoid people. They're sensible.

Not in public and not in a way that could be possibly traced back to me, no.

Oh by the Saints, Marcus, sure and ye must stop scarin' the students. They'll start thinkin' ye really DO intend to eat them for breakfast, beer-battered.

I know ye'd never actually carry out that threat, but I do hope fer yer sake that the gossip stops soon.

Private to Marcus

Like you'd cheat on Penelope in the first place, were you together with her!

Do drop by for a visit soon, hmm? I've a bottle of twenty-year-old Scotch with yer name on it.

A little terror before breakfast is healthy.

Private to Teagan

Yes. But you know people.

Where do you find those gems?

Silly lad. Ye should smile more often instead of scowlin' at them all the time! It'd look far more handsome.

Private to Marcus

Aye, that I do. And it's glad I am to know ye, laddie.

Sure an' I can't tell ye a secret like that! But at least I share.

I think that's a truly inspired idea, Flint.

Did you know that while Alicia was stealing you from Penelope, I was stealing Terence from her? Right pair of tarts, my best mate and I.

Oh really? You should both be stoned, you evil women.

Yes. Or possibly burned at the stake?

Stoning is better because the spectators get something to do.
