Soul and Fire

Sebadoh's song "Soul and Fire" is one of my all-time favorites, but I'd never realized anybody else had ever heard it, let alone cared about it. So it was a bit of a shock when I found it featured as NPR's Song of the Day. I guess I could take it as a sign of creeping age or my lost edge or whatever, but instead of thinking about that I chose ( Read more... )

Well, hello, and welcome to my flist. Most of my entries are friends-only and they're quite different from my public entries, so there will be no hard feelings if you decide to rethink the adding. In the meantime I'll look forward to reading what you have to say.

Hey,

Congrats on the new dog. I'm still relaxing after my year of full time teaching. What do I do but read five novels,--clearly a case of printed word withdrawal--and play racqueball.

I have heard of the band Sebadoh. Were they from the Amherst Noho megalopolis?

Hey there, Henry D! Yes yes yes, Sebadoh did come out of the "Amherst Noho megalopolis". I think the chronology goes Dinosaur Jr.--Sebadoh/fIREHOSE--Folk Implosion.

Which five novels did you read? Do you want to teach again next year?

Hey,

i heard Dinosaur Jr. when I was in Amherst. I liked their overall sound, but didn't hear any really catchy songs. The books: Mason and Dixon--good but long, with brief sections that I didn't get, The Beach --the book was made into a movie with Dicaprio. I liked the book quite a bit, but I am a sucker for Islands, back to nature hippiness, and utopian societies. Hoot by Hiaasen, not as funny as his usual stuff, The taking by Dean Koontz (I won't apologize for slumming)--not as good as his best, and The many loves of Dobie Gillis, picked out bc the first story was one I'd read in seveth grade, actually pretty OK.
I just signed the contract to teach next year.
