I must say that to someone used to the Jeremy Brett series, the Rathbone-Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies can come across as a bit silly at points. And I'm not really on board with Watson being so ditzy and Holmes being the straight man. -

Is it a form of trolling if you write a story with a very quirky premise that seems to offer lots of potential for disturbing and transgressive weirdness, and then give it a plot that makes sense, sympathetic and virtuous characters, a happy ending, and minimal gore? -

Since "sexy supernatural hypermasculine alpha male" seems to be a fairly popular trope in paranormal romance, as is romanticizing traditionally dangerous creatures, how long do you think it'll be until somebody writes a story with a Sexy Orc Warlord love interest? -

There's nothing like clicking on a story that sounds like it has a really interesting premise, only to discover within the first few paragraphs that the prose style is clunky at best and it really needs an editor. -
Idea for a story
Tolkienesque fantasy perspective flip, with the twist that the "Dark Lord reborn" is no such thing. He (or she, even) is actually an orc Genghis Khan wannabe with a talent for self-promotion who found an intact suit of Dark Lord-era armor and is using the mystique to help rally the scattered monster races to their banner ( Read more... ) -

I wish that people in superhero comics came in a broader range of body types (and I'm not talking about where it's part of their gimmick, like the Blob, I'm talking normal human variation). I now have a second part-time job! And one I actually enjoy, at that. I'm a cashier at my local game store. (It is a very part-time job, and not enough to fund any drastic changes in my lifestyle, but I am happy to be working more and the money is nice.) -
Really good vegetarian summer dinner
We had this last night.
Middle Eastern grain salad made with millet, fresh herbs, cucumber, tomato, olives, and a tangy dressing. The traditional recipe calls for parsley and mint, since the parsley's long since bolted by now I used fresh mint, dill, and a bit of savory and lovage. We had this with homegrown green fava beans. So good!
