It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light -Aristotle Onassis
Louis slowly opens his eyes to a burning sensation and immediately closes them tight. He doesn't know what that was and he's not sure if he likes it. All he knows is that it was bright. Way brighter than the darkness he's been used too.
"Lou?" Harry's voice makes its way to his ears. "Lou, can you open your eyes?" he spoke softly and calm, as if he was trying to assure Louis it was okay.
Louis hesitantly opens his eyes to see that bright light again. He tries hard to adjust but fails miserably.
"Lou, it's okay."
He tries again and succeeds, though he still has to squint from the blinding light (mind you, Louis is not used to such bright lights). He stares into another pair of eyes, the color being far from black; it was much lighter and something about it made Louis calm. It was truly beautiful and breath-taking. He can only guess it's what people call green. Green, the color of Harry's eyes.
"H-Haz?" Louis' voice was shaking. He's scared about everything; he's not used to all his new surroundings.
"It's me Lou." He grasps Louis' hand and runs a thumb along the knuckles.
He breathes a sigh of relief and closes his eyes again. "It's - weird."
"I know Boobear, but don't worry. Everything will turn out just fine."
"It's just so - bright and different," he sighs.
"You'll get used to it. The doctors said its normal to keep your eyes closed for the first few weeks since your eyes will be sensitive."
"Oh. When do I go home?"
"Probably tomorrow if you fully recover."
"Okay. I really wanna go home, though."
"Me too, I can't wait to show you around. You've missed out on a lot."
"Ha. I finally have eyes that work. Isn't that awesome?" He didn't mean for it to come out like that. It's just with all his senses now working properly, it's kind of overwhelming.
"Lou, I -”
"I'm sorry, Harry. I guess I'm just overwhelmed about everything," he sighed.
"It's fine. It must be hard for you right now."
"Are you - are you gonna stay?"
"Of course! I can't leave you alone right now; I don't want you to get a panic attack."
Louis chuckles softly and relaxes into Harry's touch. 'Maybe - maybe everything's gonna be okay'

Louis keeps his eyes closed for most of the next two days, occasionally opening them to adjust them to the light. Harry only stayed one more day in the hospital; Louis had encouraged him to go to Uni. But it was hard the next day without him.
Harry finally arrives to take Louis home. Louis, being anxious and biting his nails, smiles when he hears Harry enter the waiting room. He decided not to open his eyes until the car ride home; he thought it would make everything even more special.
"Lou, you ready?" Harry softly asks.
Louis nods and reaches for Harry's hand. Harry's soft fingers curl around Louis'.
"Okay, let's go home."

Harry doesn't help him into the car this time. Louis knows he has to do things by himself now.
He slowly opens his eyes, taking everything in. The sky was kind of grey but Louis was okay with that. He was glad it wasn't sunny out so the light wouldn't hurt his eyes.
Harry drives slow and steady; he wants this experience to be memorable for Louis. He smiles as he watches Louis' wandering eyes.
Louis ghosts his fingers over the window, his breath fogging up the glass. He runs his fingers across it, making little shapes and pictures. He inhales and makes his muscles go lax. Looking over at Harry, he smiles. He notices how beautiful the boy is, with his chocolate curls, his gorgeous green eyes and pearly white skin. He realizes that he really has been missing out on a lot.
Exhaling, he goes back to looking out the window. He takes in all the colors; the green of the leaves, the pinks and purples of the flowers, the blue of the birds and the overall scenery of nature. It made him calm and peaceful.
They finally arrive at their flat and Harry tells Louis to close his eyes.
"What for?" Louis asks.
"Just do it," Harry insists.
He hesitantly closes them.
"It's fine. It'll be fine," Harry assures him and takes Louis' hand in his. Louis lets himself be dragged by Harry all the way to their flat.
He hears a click and Harry says "Okay, you can open them now."
Opening his eyes, he gasps in surprise. From the end of one wall to the other there's a sign hanging that says "Welcome Home Boobear!" It was written braille and the thought of Harry going all the way to get a sign written in braille made Louis smile.
Louis had always thought it kind of funny that the person who invented braille (Louis Braille) had the same first name as him. He thought it was ironic because they were both blind.
"Harry, I never left home, though," Louis says in awe.
"I know, but since you can see now, I wanted to make you seeing the flat special. First experiences and new sights should always be special."
Louis smiles so big it hurts; he hasn't been this happy in a really long time.
Hugging Harry tight, he laughs. "Thank you Haz, really. You don't know how much this means to me." he tucks his head at the crook of Harry's neck.
Harry hugs his back just as tight, "You're welcome, Lou. I'm glad I get to experience this with you."
Louis pulls off him, "Okay, enough gushy talk, I want a tour around the flat."
Harry smiles, "Okay, let's get started."
He walks to the middle of the room with Louis close to him. "First we have the living room where we watch TV and relax on the couch!"
Louis looks around; the new colors almost hurting his eyes. There was a leather couch, a coffee table and a flat screen.
Harry walks ahead. "Next, there's the kitchen where I make the food to feed you."
The kitchen looked pretty neat. It was all black and silver; Louis made a self-note to himself promising that he'll learn to cook so Harry wouldn't bother all the time.
Sitting on the kitchen counter was a double fudge chocolate cake.
"Did you make this?" Louis asks.
"Of course, it's for your home-coming party. But we'll save that for later."
"If it's a party where's all the people?" Louis swiped his finger across the frosting.
"Right now it's just a two-man party." He continues walking to the next room.
"Mmm, it's good," Louis says licking his finger clean.
"Duh, it was made by me." He stops at the bathroom.
"Shut up you div. Come on, continue with the tour."
"Okay, next is the bathroom where we shower and do our business. As you can see everything is blue ‘cause it goes well together."
Louis was tempted to run to the mirror and look at his reflection but he decided to save that for later.
He followed Harry to the hallway where the bedrooms were. Their bedrooms were right across from each other so it would be easier for Louis to find Harry.
"Now we have the bedrooms."
Louis' fingertips touch the doorknob.
"Go on, open it," Harry says.
He opens the door and looks at his bedroom for the first time. He frowns at what he finds. "It's so - plain."
"It's fine. We'll redecorate it later. No worries."
Just as Harry was opening the door to his own room, the doorbell rang.
Harry grins, "Looks like the guests are here."
