Oh wonderful. I was hoping someone would write this. I hated their final meeting. After the end of Children of Earth, why the hell was he not ANGRY at the Doctor for not being there? Why'd he just snap a salute and pick up some boy like his world hadn't just been yanked out from under his feet? Ugh.

This is replacing that scene and becoming my personal headcanon for what happened. Just FYI.

Thank you so much! Yeah, the snippet of scene we got just did NOT work for me at all. It was as if, after all that Jack had gone through, we were being told it could all be made right by the Doctor showing up for ten seconds and throwing him a new toy. I found that incredibly insulting to both characters. In my personal headcanon (fantastic phrase, btw!) there's simply no way the Doctor would treat Jack like that and no way Jack would stand for it - let alone welcome it.

So glad this version worked better for you! :-)

Oh, I love this. I love the context you've given for the snippet of a scene we got on the show. It really needed something more to make it make sense, and you've done that beautifully.

Thank you so much! That scene simply did not make sense to me in any way -- it did not fit either character or where they were at that point. It had the feel of being the end of a longer scene - a coda to something huge and angsty and messy that had already taken place between them. I started to wonder what that could have been, and lo, a fic was born :-)

This was awesome. Just the right emotional balance between the two. Thanks for a great read!

Thank you so much! There definitely needed to be more than what we were given onscreen. So glad you liked!

An amazing goodbye. I wish we could have seen it onscreen.

Thanks for writing!

Thank you so much! The more I thought about it the more I knew there simply had to have been more to it than what we got. Clearly there was this whole other scene that got cut because they couldn't air it on a family show... :-)
