I really like this site, obviously, since I am still here after all the years (excluding some breaks). But it is more and more frustrating that outside of the people I currently follow, it is hard to find communities and people that I'd like to get to know better. I can search interests, but everything is outdated. I do visit the add me groups

I went in the wrong direction over the past few months and need to get back on track.

It happens. I took many months off, got back into a habit, and slipped off again.

I guess the way to find new people are those friendzies people post, I expect there will be some for the New Year? Or just get to chat with other commenters on your friends' entries.
I suppose before long everyone left on LJ will be friends with everyone else..

That does seem to be the way. I need to step out of my comfort zone and started commenting comments!

I've been here at the site for twenty years now, and I wonder what's going to happen to it. Right now I'm worried about what will happen when it's time to renew my package for photos/icons. LJ is of course owned by a Russian company, and the Ukraine War sanctions mean that US credit cards can't be used for transactions with Russian businesses. LJ has just been renewing my packages since 2022, but they've hinted that they might stop that. I really don't want to lose all my icons and my site design. So I'm worried about that.
I do wish the community functions worked better. In the old days (say 2004-2009) it was easy to find interest groups and meet other LJ posters. I miss things like reading groups for "Pale Fire" and "The Tale of Genji", or for travel literature and French films. I wish LJ would do more to encourage people to revive groups like that.

That will really stink if they don't renew it for us. I have been here since 2001. I changed out my icons a while back and saved them to my computer, so not worried about them so much, but the pictures...I might think about backing them up

I do need to start backing up things here. I keep a mirror site at Dreamwidth on a just-in-case basis. If anything happens to LJ, I don't want to lose 20 years of entries and thoughts,

Same boat, it's hard to find new friends on here even though I am active. If you want we can become friends on here :D
