Just a thought on raising responsible teens...

I know this statement will probably have the Super Nanny pounding down my door within the hour, but nevertheless it must be said…I simply refuse to coddle my kids.

Now before I receive 57 posts about how I’m such a bad parent, let me explain.

First of all let me remind everyone that my kids are 14 and 15-years-old, far from toddler stage. And ( Read more... )

I think it's great that you'd like to add me as a friend. I'd also like to add you if it's ok. Thanks.

As a fan of Super Nanny I disapprove of your comment. Super Nanny doesn't "coddle" children thank you very much.

I don't think you deserve to call yourself a fan! ;P

Yeah, well, here are probably a lot of things I do that I don't deserve. :-)

Hi. I've added you as a friend, too. It will be nice to communicate with someone who respects other people's opinions.

I could have gotten really nasty with "withtraffic" but I chose to take the high road. I agreed with everything you said. I guess she married the one out of a hundred men who don't require sex 24/7! And God and biology definitely belong in the same sentance! Anyway, I'm still getting attacked by her (my email is so overloaded right now), but I refuse to let the vicious little girl drag me down to her level. I'm a little old for school-girl fights.

Talk to ya soon....

Yeah, I was still getting some nasty stuff from her this morning, too.
I just hit "delete" and didn't even go there. I'm going to stay far away from THAT thread. ;)

I perhaps did overgeneralize, but I do feel sorry for her husband! LOL!

Don't you love it on how she uses her legal knowledge (as a law student) to attack people too?

I wonder if she's just as disagreeable in real life. *hugs*

I just want to say thank you for this post. I'm a teen, but I'm always horrified to see how my friends' parents treat them. Sheltering your kids is so dangerous, and yet most parents do it...
I'm not going to go into a rant, but I just wanted to say I agree 100% with you. :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this. I appreciate a view from the "other" side. My kids understand that by allowing them room to make their own mistakes, I'm also teaching them that they're going to be the ones to pay for them. What this really means is that although they enjoy more freedom (than most of their friends), they have to be more careful about how they use it, cause Mommy and Daddy aren't going to bail them out. Whether this is a good or a bad philosophy is yet to be seen, but I really want them to have the tools necessary for adulthood when they enter that world.

You know, I've just recently discovered that some of my friends can't make pasta. I mean, I could cook me some pasta since I was 8! Girls who're 17/18 years old can't boil some water and put some pasta in it...
Anyway, hasn't this tendency emanated from the 60's? We can always blame our parents' decade. :P

Probably...we can blame lots of people...but, umm, did you say pasta...I'm really hungry...
