The Trouble With Teens - Part 2, or "Who are you and what have you done with my child?"

I would have to guess that since the dawn of time, just about everyone who has entered into parenthood has complained about never truly being prepared for the job. I imagine that Cro-Magnon man had considerable tribulations trying to keep their children from wandering out and being eaten by cave bears. I’m sure that parents in the dark ages spent ( Read more... )

I have to disagree with this "redheads do not look good with jet black hair". But the rest of that was good! :)

I thank god everyday my son is only 9 months. I fear the years when he shall hit his teens and hope they go well. Though I am told that its worst when you have girls.. which of course I want one now but might at some point in my lifetime regret it when she turns into a teen lol...

I also must add that I myself went through the phase of wanting to dye my hair.. my mother of course would not give in and told me to wait until I turned 18.. which i did and when i turned 18 i dyed about 4-5 inches of the bottom of my hair purple. Now mind you I have a dark brown hair color which ment it having to be bleached first -.-".. after 2 days of it being purple it went pure white....
I still have nightmares time to time about it and do thank my mother that she did not let me go wild on my hair when I was younger ..
Don't worry someday she will thank you!

I have two girls and two boys...the older two were easier (one girl now 22 and one boy now 20) or maybe it just seems that way because they've moved out of the house ;)

I have a motto...don't sweat the small stuff.

What this means for the kids is: do what you want with your hair...it'll grow back, but no piercing (other than ears) or tatoos until you're eighteen and you have to pay for it yourselves.

So, as it stands now, I have a daughter with purple streaks (and yes they go pure white and she has to dye them constantly back to purple), and a son with an orange mohawk and a checkerboard pattern shaved into the sides of his head...it makes life interesting when we go out in public...but at least it keeps them from nagging so much about the piercing!

The "do-it-yourself" piercings scare me the most. I don't think they'll try it...as adament as I am on the subject, I think they'd know I'd blow a fuse if they ever did. I don't flip out over much...and that's what makes me so scary when I actually do!

Muhahahahhahah

My mom's standard response was "Once you're 18, you can do whatever you like, you'll just have to wait 'till then."

That's my standard comment also- youcan do it when your 18 (or 21) depending on what they want..My oldest son is 17, he will be 18 next March and he is on the "countdown" to do everything I won't let him do now..
I can hardley wait to see how this turns out.. No doubt he will pave the road for his 2 younger brothers, they wil either think he is the coolest or that he's an idiot, we shall see.

I like your mom already. That has been our house rule for about 8 years, ever since my oldest daughter turned 14. Now she's 22 and still doesn't have any piercings. There's a method to my madness.
