The universe is not a joke, it's a straight line. Making up a punch line is the whole point to life.
I agree! It's why, when my life begins to look like a sitcom, I mostly feel relieved. Well, that and, obviously, amused.
I wonder, now, whether I'd figured that out before I met you, or sometime after. Probably the latter. It seems like I've always felt that the secret of life is finding joy wherever and whenever you can, but I know that that's probably not the case. I know that I used to take life way too seriously. But when did I start to view it differently? I'm not sure.
I know that, when I was in law school, I saw the whole point as having fun (which is why I was not the most popular person in my class; in fact, I think some of my classmates thought I was nuts). Yes, I was there to get a degree, but I wasn't hellbent on being an attorney; a JD was one means to an end ... so do it if it's fun. If it's not, then stop and go for an MSW instead. Even though I started to get pulled into the seriousness thing at times, I

So, what you got out of this is that the point is to have fun? Nice to see things work that way. Not the point I meant at all. (ok, only ONE of the points I meant) Part of it all is that reality and it's meaning is incomplete, it's a Rorschach test. That we impose our own interpretations to it. It's a straight line and WE are the comedians writing the punch.

Or, "Deep Thought?" This does sound suspiciously like the question that is the answer to the question of Life, The Universe, and Everything. For me, the point of Life has been "living, loving, learning, and laughing" for a long time now. And the answer to what I am doing wrong (why I keep doing stupid things) was a line from a Dorothy Parker poem, "Could it be, when I was young, someone dropped me on my head?"
I never was much good at devising punch words for straight lines. I think I am more a subject for wit than a source. Perhaps that is the punch line, for some of us...

Yup, we do impose our own interpretations. And they can be tragic, melodramatic, mundane or, yes, comic. We *are* writing the punch, and writing the punch is, in part, a matter of perspective and attitude. I choose to impose my own interpretations, and -- wherever possible -- to have those be comic punch lines. When I'm in a situation where I can no longer *find* the fun or at least the comic side of things ... I'm in a situation looking for trouble.
So it wasn't that I missed your point, I just decided to ramble about one part of it. :) {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}

I like this very much! Also explains the difficulties and tiredness of life when we're feeling just too tired.
thanks :)
