[Liquid wasn't exactly the first person one would expect in a costume store. He wasn't actually in there because he wanted one-- having never dressed up for Halloween before in his life and really not having much of a desire to-- but mostly out of curiosity.]

[People actually paid good money for this? Money that could be better spent on guns giant bipedal robots nuclear weapons for the giant robots this is Liquid, let's not even kid ourselves. On guns and giant robots.]

[Because there's a tousled, black-haired head popping up out of the nearest costume rack and waving around a frilly pink ballerina tutu that looks very secondhand.]

[ A slightly amused hum. ] Slobbery's a good look on you. You know, I keep hearing about it--what the hell happened last year?

Yeah, I always thought I rocked the foaming-at-the-mouth look...

And ... yeah, uh, last year, the entire world like... glitched the fuck out. Sky went all orange and purple and there were flying skeletons everywhere. And all the natives went comatose and pixelated and the Pokemon just froze. [That had been the part that bothered her most, actually. It was creepy to think of her normally-lively companions as... static 2D images.]

[ There's silence on his end for a moment as he processes that. ]

I'll keep my fingers crossed. [ For Kyrie's sake; he doesn't want her to have to deal with that. ] Does this place do stuff like that pretty often?

[There's rummaging sounds on her end-- she's still picking through the costume racks while she speaks.]

Well... no. Not really.

I mean, freaky stuff happens from time to time, yes. But all the other stuff that's happened has had... you know. An explanation. That made sense.

[A pause.]

We still don't know what the fuck that was all about.

[In all honesty, that was what made it creepy. She hadn't been as viscerally terrified as she had during the fog last September, or even injured as badly as the time the bad Radio Tower signal made the water Pokemon freak out, but... those had still all made sense as soon as everybody knew what was going on.]

[Henry is trailing behind Heather, just kind of eyeing everything. He's been a stubborn FART HEAD so far and hasn't tried on any of the masks. He did have a black shirt draped over one arm though that said 'THIS IS MY COSTUME'. Yeah. He's one of those guys.]

We'd BETTER. I don't even think I BOUGHT anything last year. I was too busy being officially weirded out.

[Absent-mindedly, she reaches over to put one of the crowns on Kaito's head before going back to digging.]

So seriously, if I have to go another year without Halloween candy, I'm gonna be mad.

[Open his mouth to say something, but is cut off by the crown being plopped onto his head. Blinks a few times before shooting Heather a somewhat amused look and tugging the crown away.

And then replacing it on Heather's head]

Maybe we should buy some in advance, just in case.

[She shoots him an amused look when he puts the crown on her head, then reaches into the box again and pulls out a flowery tiara. And puts THAT on his head instead. c:]

Sky turned orange and purple and there were giant monsters flying around... not Pokemon. Or at least not normal ones.

And all the natives just froze and turned all fucked-up and flat.
