I've always loved the idea of the cases they couldn't solve (especially since statistically, they're probable) - and this is really quite incisive about both of them as characters. It's like the show can be at times: says a lot with (comparatively) few words. And it's always a pleasure to read something which reads like that, considered.
Anyway. I love this: “You just dust yourself off and come back the next day,” she says finally. It's so Beckett, so much of her strength described so simply and wonderfully and now I'm getting too excited so I'll probably need a thesaurus soon.
But this line though: He would know; after all, he’s the writer. So perfect. It made me stop to pause and admire it.
I'm really enamored with the idea of cases they can't solve (for this and all of the procedurals I've ever watched, haha!) -- or even if they solve the case but can't get the evidence/conviction.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked what I did with the characters.
"She hadn’t counted on this, though. Hadn’t counted on him." If that line is not their relationship in a nutshell, I don't know what is. SERIOUSLY. Just look at the pilot and where they are now. NO WAY WAS SHE COUNTING ON THAT.
*cough* What am I talking about? Back to your ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL fic. Have you written Castle fic before and I've not realized?? Because this is so great and so them, especially with Beckett! And Castle not being able to give up! And drinks! And EVERYTHING.
Basically this is great and you should write more. :D
Never written Castle before in my life! This was my first shot at it :D Well, okay, there were several false starts before this came out. But basically, yes. This was my first Castle fic.
Thank you! It's quite possible I'll be writing more, but I think it'll wait until I'm caught up again. That way I won't have the moments of panic where things I wanted to do didn't quite work because I didn't know specifics of what's gone on in S4.
