good call picking LC over RH; you probably didnt do it for this purpose but the Middle East studies dept is stronger there, ie most of the great classes are there and if youre going to take arabic you dont have to commute from the RH campus an hour (or more) there and back. which i have been doing this year, it sucks.
Let's see...I am a freshman theater major (playwriting concentration) at LC. Although you cannot audition for the Mainstage productions as a nonmajor, you can audition for the studio shows. I know a couple people who are nonmajors and they are more a part of the department that some of those officially in it. The department is not competative at all--it's much more of a supportive, collaboration based philosophy than sink-or-swim, and the faculty and students are really great.
I don't know how easy dance is to do, although I do know you can take a couple of classes for nonmajors. Ailey is pretty intense.
i've read some random information (i think on wikipedia?) that said that students weren't allowed to audition at all if they weren't theatre majors. is there anything else you can tell me about the theatre program/community?
i'm middle east studies major, too. lc campus has more interesting classes outside of theology, and lc only offers arabic, and on occasion biblical hebrew. it's a growing major and since it's interdisciplinary, you end up taking 1 or 2 classes from every field, poli sci, anthropology, modern languages, history, theology, etc. and it has less requirements, meaning you only have to take 8 classes instead of the usual ten, 3 of those classes being a Middle East seminar, Intro to the Modern Middle East, and Sacred Texts of the Mideast (take that class with Prof. Kueny at lc). Good luck in everything. I'm Krisztina and I'm on facebook if you need help.
welcome to the wet apple today . as a student at rose hill it is not bad living in little italy next to rose hill. yes its the bronx but the rent is more affordable than other parts on nyc right next to fordham the bronx zoo etc. metro north is right there . thats an option if you want to save money . if you have a car astoria and brooklyn are viable options as the commute to rose hill on the train can be long. inwood is a cheaper alternative to the UWS and close to transportation to midtown and rose hill.
