Peons who Epitomize Tasteless Advertising (PETA)

Jul 23, 2004 00:31

These days, it seems almost futile to protest the rampant exploitation and objectification of women in the media. Given its mainstream prevalance coupled with the rather disturbing aura of complacency and acceptance among women, I decided to abandon hope of trying to incite a feminist backlash against these outrageous beauty standards. In fact, ( Read more... )

An attack against PETA will always be welcomed with a smile.

The Archivist® in me is on a roll and has remembered this post:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/madisonwi/161088.html

in reference to a PETA billboard in Madison, WI circa October of last year.

PETA will self-destruct when its "principles" collapse after they eat my ass.

Thanks for the link, I needed a good laugh. However, I do support animal rights and think that the exploitation of animals is appalling. Likewise, I have nothing against ads that depict the torture and abuse of animals for the furthering their agenda, but the ones I've shown here in this post serve no purpose other than to inflame certain groups that would otherwise support them. In the end, the innocent suffer (animals), and that's what pisses me off most.

As for milk, it may have some harmful effects due to the fact that dairy cows are pumped full of hormones and kept pregnant for most of their lives. PETA, however, feels the need to take this to such an extreme that they wind up making themselves look ridiculous.

What exactly did the billboard say anyway?

It read MILK: IT'S A KILLER... and had a list of diseases caused allegedly caused by milk.

However, I do support animal rights and think that the exploitation of animals is appalling

Even though it is my belief that animal rights do not exist (being the stickler for syntax that I am), I do know what you mean nonetheless.

I would not object to an increase in the cost of beef (et al) if farms and slaughterhouses were to resort to more humane methods. Even if the cost of beef increases twofold.

I will not eat veal... it tastes like shit anyway.

I frequently scold people who torture insects.

etc., etc. so know you have a better idea of my stance.

So, even though I do exercise my place at the top of the food chain, I believe that since it is in our ability to mitigate the cruelty (unlike other animals)... we must do so.

The am jocks at one of the local radio stations went on a similar (albeit less articulate) tirade a few years back, and they designed a logo for META: Men Eating Tasty Animals. It was kind of funny.

These people need to get a life. I don't give a damn if you are morally opposed to eating meat or wearing leather or fur, but don't pontificate all the time and throw blood on people wearling fur coats....they need to get a life.

I hear they even threatened some researchers who were working with primates with physical violence. These people are scary.

I love the incongruity of people that will actually resort to such tactics. That makes as much sense as people who bomb abortion clinics.

I just remember Denis Leary talking about animal research: "If you tell me that hooking a monkey;s brain up to a car battery is going to save my life, I got two things to say to you. The red is positive, and the black is negative."

I'm in favor of animal rights, very much in favor actually, but these people are going about it all wrong.

For reference, PETA and PETA supporters are and always will be my number one greatest enemies, ahead of even Bush - but not by much. This was one of your greatest posts ever, Saff! You rock, they should put you on cable so you can unveil and debase these pathetic organizations and their poor attempts of advertising.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I take comfort in the fact that I can verbally dismantle these institutions even if I can't actually destroy them.

LOL!!! I love the anti-Eric icon too! You adopted it for LJ - rock on. :-) Maybe we could write emails to PETA fiends every day, or phone them daily, and just pester them in general? Then again, I'm sure they receive much hate already, and that such only makes them more bitter, resentful, and illogical.
