I know I am willing to fight before it gets to that. I just pray to God that there are more people that will also.

I am not sure if you say this jokingly or not ... but I think about doing that very thing more and more each day.

Ya gotta love it when British Columbia is about to enact law to counter our fucked up Patriot ACT law.

I'm not sure I remember this correctly - but I think the draft bill was introduced by a Democrat (Rangel?) who was against the war, but also angry that it was being fought by an almost entirely working-class army. His point in bringing the bill was that the war probably never would have happened if the sons of its biggest supporters had to go and fight. I should probably read up on it, but my first instinct is to say that it'll never pass.

But the fact that it's even come this far - man, what a world.

It was introduced by a Democrat for the reasons you mentioned, but I have a feeling it will be reintroduced sometime in the near future due to our increased need for military manpower.

re-instituting the draft would cause riots, and a near breakdown of society. Philosophically, we're light-years away from it. However, one more 9/11 type incident could put us there quickly. I'm still not convinced that 9/11 wasn't intentionally ignored, either. I'm not a conspiracy nutsy like our friend "spikey," but at the same time I'm no idealist who thinks that the politicians are necessarily good men looking out for the country.
