She once accused me of perpetuating rape culture because I said I wish women would report rapes and sexual assaults more often than they do.

Was she actually wrong in saying this?

That's the thing that peeves me about the Aurora shooting. For the emotionally-perceived-as-large number of people injured in the shooting, it's still just a tiny drop in the bucket of violence as a whole. (See Ernunnos's recent post about how it's a "typical" weekend in Chicago.) So it seems reasonable to me that drunkenness explains more violence than mental illness.

I could disagree with how she worded it (she said "to affect such violence," implying "such violence as mass shootings," which yeah, I don't think drunkenness has historically been a factor in spree shootings). However, her explanatory sentence, "a mentally ill person is no more likely to shoot someone than any other person is," sounds like something that comes from statistical evidence. Is it wrong?
